Question MTB 2 & MTB 3 for Step 2CK

Hello,
I have read alot of people use both of these books in there preparation for step 2ck however one thing i have noticed not alot of people mention is what exactly do they read from each book so if anyone can elaborate im sure it will help out. Everyone knows your suppose to read IM from MTB 2 but what about dermatology/preventive med/emergency med/ethic and for other subjects "they" say MTB 3 (Obs/Gyn and Peds) but what about Surgery. As for me so far ive done
From MTB 2:
All of Internal Medicine
Dermatology
Preventive Medicine
Emergency Medicine
From MTB 3 (will do):
Obs/Gyn
Peds
- but im still confused about Surgery. As far as pages are concerned MTB 3 has more pages for these subjects but dont know if there "better". Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

I read Surgery from MTB 2. Then, scanned it in MTB 3. Looks to me like surgery in MTB 3 is a lot better.

Thanks for the reply, yeah im thinking about just the IM med bit from MTB 2 (including the dermatology/emergency med/preventive med.) than everything else from MTB 3 (mainly surgery/obs&gyn/peds)

Thanks for the reply.

Help

Hey Guys,

I don't have MTB 3 yet. Is it absolutely necessary to get MTB 3 ? It's only 30-40 dollars extra so I don't mind spending the money but adding one more source can really be overwhelming lol If its recommended and necessary then I will for sure get it. What do you suggest ?

I have the following books -

MTB 2
Kaplan Qbook
Kaplan LN + Videos
FA Step 2 CK

I was planning on sticking to these except for FA and Kaplan LN. Should I incorporate MTB 3 as well? I feel like once I pick up a book I have to read the whole thing, not just sections. I feel like I might be missing something from one book that might not be there in the other one. Then I end up spending a lot of time reading the same stuff from 2 different sources. Is this common ? I don't want to waste time! Thanks for your suggestions!

Hmm every person on this forum who took the exam before us says that FA for step 2 is useless. I think it is better to stick with the tried and tested method- MTB2 for IM n MTB 3 for the rest.

Yep, I remember the thread you are talking about. It's generally recommended there to read MTB 2 for I.M. and MTB 3 for everything else.

I haven't read any of the books as a whole yet, but I might read MTB 2 for I.M. and MTB 2 and 3 for everything else.
