can meningitis present with bilateral babinski ?
i was doing a q, ans was meningitis but patient had bilateral babinski which i wud consider as clue to spine pathology...ur comments ?
MMM weird question to ask, babinski just means upper motor neuron damage/insult, doesnt mean meningitis by itself.
I woudnt rely on Babinski sign to dx meningitis, Rather look at more specific signs of meningeal irritation such as photofobia, brudzinski and Kernig signs, fever, CSF findings and such.
If everything is screaming meningitis ignore the Babinski , look at the specific sign for each condition, dont look at miscellaneous or overly general signs and symptoms, I learn that the hard way.
Babinski sign can be positive in meningitis , encephalitis etc with raised ICT...
Its positive in UMN leasion.. That is any where above anterior horn cell to pyramidal cell in cortex..
