Smile K06100 Step 2 CK Exam Experience

I had my exam on 29th october.....it wasn't a good experience for me bcoz I dont know how it went....Had a feeling that I messed it....So I was down for few days......

Since this forums helped me a lot during my prep,my experience may also help other forum members.....

Materials I used during my prep

1. Kaplan CK lecture notes — one time without videos, took 2-2.5 months
2. UW question bank — ultimate key, took 2.5 months to complete it, had many questions from it in the exam
3. MTB 2 and 3 — did alongside UW, at least 2 readings minimum are must, max as u wud like
Thus it took me near about 6 months to prepare Step 2 CK…

My scores during Preparation were

1.UW — 71% (timed, subject-wise mode), later did only incorrect and marked questions.
2.NBME 2 (1 month before exam) — did just after completion of UW, got 221/460, got depressed.
3.NBME 4 (2 weeks before exam) — did after revising UW notes, got 249/580
4.UWSA (4 days before exam) — gave after 2nd reading of MTB 2 and 3, got 263/770…felt confident…

Day of Exam— Gave my exam on 29th October …Exam started at 8 AM…skipped tutorial…its same as in free 150 from usmle site.
Block 1—was easy ..had 45 questions….did 10 min early….marked 4-5 questions
Block 2—somewhat tough than 1st block….had 45 questions…marked around 9-10 questions…finished just on time
Block 3—toughest….had 45 questions…..marked around 12-14….did just on time….
Block 4—like block 2….had 43 questions and an abstract question which had 3 parts…2 were easy..and 1 I guessed….marked 7-8…did 5 min early…
Block 5—easy….had 45 questions…..marked 3-4 questions…..but finished just on time….
Block 6—difficult…had 44 questions…..had a drug ad which was very easy…..dont know how many marked….finished just on time….
Block 7 and 8---had 44 questions each….Block 7 had a drug ad which was easy…..dont know about the difficulty level bcoz I was tired so whatever came in mind, picked the option and went on……

• Overall,I felt it tough not becoz the vignettes were lengthy but some questions were there which I haven’t encountered in UW and MTB’s….I had almost normal sized vignettes just exactly like in UWSA but the questions were like UW (more than 90%) and like NBME (about 10%) ….

• Exam is lengthy too…I mean to say after 6th block ,it seemed like I was just reading the vignette and not thinking about the scenario presented in it…..happens with all so not a new feature…..

• I did encountered some step 1 questions like glycogen storage diseases, immunology, lysosomal storage diseases etc.

• There were many questions regarding the causative agent (micro-organisms)…so be prepared about them…u need to know everything.

• Obs-gynae is heavily tested in exam..MTB’s do not cover all the topics…so read the uncovered topics from KLN..Atleast u need to know whats presented in the vignette…

thats all what I remember.....will post my score when I get it....

If U have any questions, feel free to ask ......

IM is fully covered by MTB 2 and UW....No need of KLN.....but for ur personal satisfaction u can read them if u want......I think KLN are necessary only for obs-gynae and psychiatry ( first 100 pages)...If u do BS from step 1 FA, u will miss the treatment part which is very very imp in step 2 ......

Biostats is same as step 1 ,also its easy as compared to step 1 as they only ask questions related to senstivity, specificity,NNT,NNH and type of study.....

I want to take the exam by Dec end. I finished kaplanLN, videos, did MTB2 for IM, did Kaplan Qbank for IM and peads. Will start Uworld today.

Reading the post really did freak me out. I have a lot riding on step2 and well people lately have been saying that it is really difficult.

So, I wanted to know what more can I do to do well on this? Any tips, or advice you would like to share?

One thing u must keep in mind that we all people almost read the same materials but get different scores, the reason is that exam not only tests our knowledge but also other things like stamina, time management, breaks, speed, understanding the question, etc.

DO LOTS AND LOTS OF MCQs .....this is the only thing that will help u clear ur concepts by presenting different scenarios of the same problem.......

What I found after exam is that things like stamina, time management, breaks, speed, understanding the question, etc. have more importance than ur knowledge of step 2 CK materials.......!!!

Thanks for posting your experience.
I am sure you will get your desired score.

Can you please clarify about what type/topics with a general example (without mentioning the actual topic/question which will against the rules of NBME) and what can be done about it. Thanks

I mean to say that during 2nd time,I read UW notes ( which I made doing UW 1st time) and did marked (about 850) and incorrect (around 600-700) questions, so it was like doing UW 2nd time......

One way of doing UW 2nd time is u mark all the questions and later pick questions from the marked pool.....

When I was doing the exam,I had lot questions in mind, but now I have forgotten them....I try to remember ...
For eg.uterine prolapse and urinary incontinence in detail ( they ask about the t/t)
pediatric nutrition and syndromes which are given in KLN but not in UW and MTB
Eye and ENT had some questions which I answered on the basis of knowledge acquired during medical school....
There were some very weird ethics questions which were a level higher than those found in UW
In dermatology, try to look at pictures of all diseases if possible ....In exam, u will get a picture and they ask for t/t......

there may be more, but for now thats all I remember......

Wishing you the best! You truly deserve it!

You were the first person to encourage me here on this forum back when i was starting out with step 1. Back when I was a "newbie" and no one would respond to my cries of help.
I believe that good things happen to good people, so rest-assured the grade is going to be AMAZING!

Good luck!

Congratulations on finishing CK ! Good luck with your score

I have a question please, I have done 50% of UW, and my exam is on 19th of Dec. I am doing 1 block/day, max 1.5 in holidays, so I am expecting to finish my 1st read of UW by 28th of Nov. I am planning to review my notes and marked and wrong questions within 2 weeks.

After that I will have maybe 5 days remaining, I am planning to take UWSA in it. In these 5 days do you recommend that redo my notes and review my weak points again or should I focus on reading the explanations of the UWSA (If I am doing 1 block/d from the qbank, that means I need 4 days for UWSA).

In the last 5 days --give UWSA and explanations 2-3 days.....and 1 day for to revise the forgettable things and 1 day for relaxation....If u had time U can review ur weak areas from ur UW notes side by side......!!!!

What will decide that U r ready for exam is ur UWSA score......!!!!

Most of the things in UWSA are covered in UW and MTB.....so it will take less time than actual UW block...U can easily finish 2 blocks in a day,may be 2.5.....!!!!!

hey
I did not study any biostats from book this time...only saw formulas and then started doing UW questions (58 questions)........neither i have used UW review of biostats ........!!!!

biostats is easy man...they only ask questions related to senstivity, specificity,NNT,NNH and type of study.....and nothing else..
