Stats Cardiovascular Risk Reduction

patient has 2+ risk factor for CAD but no CAD equivalent. his LDL is 140. he is already exercising and does not smoke [ means lifestyle modification] . what will you do ?


continue life style modification
add statin

If excercise doesnt change LDL in 3 months shift to statin..

His goal is less than 130, so if exercise and lifestyle modification dont work then you gotta add the drug.

CAD equivalent the goal is less than 100 and some authors say even less than 70

No risk factors or one the goal is less than 160, again if you have more than the goal after lifestyle modifications you would add a statin.

One question guys.. if you have CAD equivalents and lets say you have 120 LDL, would you start with lifestyle modification OR with a statin drug immediately?

He comes under high risk category, so, lifestyle modification AND a statin drug.
Goal <100 or <70 with Diabetes.

patient with DM. initial step is lifestyle modification for ____months.
whats the ans here ? 3 months ?

According to NCEP ATP III guidlines.. Diabetis is considered as coranary artery equivalent and the target LDL is 100..

Therapeutic life style changes are tried foe 6 weeks and reassessed .

can you please explain why would we start statin on 120 LDL as table says we add statin above 130 in cad or cad equivalent

i thnk we shd continue life style midifications... or we side way start low dose therapy of statins,,, exccessive use can cause muscle wastng,,,,
