ObGyn pregnancy and varicella

1. pregnant mom gets EXPOSed to chickenpox. next step ?
2. pregnant mom develops vescicles u suspect varicella. next step ?

options
  • varicella antibody assay
  • VariZIG

anyother?

thoughts?

The greatest risk for the fetus would be 5 days before delivery and 2 days postdelivery (if a rash develops within this timeline)
If that happens you give VariZiG to mother and neonate and acyclovir to neonate if he/she has signs of congenital varicella.

I think you also give VariZIG in addition to acyclovir for congenital varicella.

Yes sir thats what I put, read again I said you give VariZIG to both mother and baby and you also give acyclovir to neonate

Preg gets exposed to varicella-- 1. Antibody asssay 2. If -ve gv varizig.

Develops vesicles --- varizig as it attenuates clinical effect of virus

baby --- varizig if mother infected
baby infected gv varizig plus acyclovir
