Experiences I would like to share my experience with u

first of all i want to thank all of u for your great hints. it was really helpful
UW self assessment 226
Overall UW 70% 85 percentile(did it twice)
Did not do nbme
real deal *step 2 ck 245, 84%*
Step 1: not yet I started with step 2 ck
Study partner? Yes at first but then realized I'm better on my own but I think it's highly individualized.
Study plan?
Confused at first . because a lot of differences between USMLE and knowledge of IMG specially in ID, preventive medicine, ethics and generally in methods of investigating and treating many disease. So i chose Kaplan notes and videos to build knowledge core and i was pretty generous in doing that spending the first 3 months doing that and completing the missing information in the Kaplan notes using 3 markers (like Fischer says the black for history and physical, the blue for lab, and the red for treatment) mainly using the videos and the internet (Wikipedia and E medicine)
p.s (I don't think u should go over pediatric videos cuz there are extremely boring and instead i used the older life classes of 2001 as a base.)
i also did not read the first section of surgery and went directly through vignettes)
The second review: took about 2 months with less videos and more studying along with UW not as assessment but as knowledge tool which was extremely effective. And this is where i highly recommend having a note for the high yield info and the new stuff (believe me u r going to need it).
so i covered IM first chapter by chapter using notes and UW then followed by other divisions. And at the end of the day I did couple of timed randomized blocks to get use to the real deal
UW self assessment exam. I stopped here and said, wait a minute. i think I'm ready and I hit UWSA and I scored 226 but I felt the questions are more tough and longer than the UW so I knew that we were even and this is the time for the:
Final round: took about 45 days. Depending only on UW (only timed random blocks for proper time management, my highlighted notes in Kaplan and above all the little note I told u about.
I usually put it this way (imagine that u went fishing, if the lake u went is dead (having no fish then it is useless), and if its full of all the types of fish but u don't know how to fish. again its useless. So having a knowledge core is like having a lake full of fish to start with, and UW is the tool by which u capture as many fish as u can in certain time.
First aid, master the board, crush the board, boards and wards. Pretest,..
I'm sure these are all good books covering the high yield topics in short time but honestly i did none of them but I think this is individualized
Dubai is where I gave my exam. I arrived 2 days earlier and believe me i wanted to take all my books with me but I only took IM K book and my note book which i read nothing but it and was quite refreshing. At the end of the day had a light meal. Heard some cheering from beloved ones, ask the God to help me and went to bed early
the day of the exam: woke up early and head to the prometic center 45 min early and believe me it was the longest 45 min in my life. And when my name was called to enter the exam room I felt I was dragged to hell. And the first block was like a nightmare not because it was difficult but because I was anxious and frightened. I noticed I marked the 1st 10 Qs without even reading them carefully. Then gradually I found myself making my way through the exam
How many breaks. i took 3 breaks I skipped the tutorial to have a full hour break. 1st break after the 3rd block about 30 mins for breakfast. 2nd after the 6th block also 30 mins eating chocolate bars and some juice and water then finished my last 2 blocks
Was the exam hard : with the stress and time pressure believe me if the question was about your name u would imagine it as the most difficult question ever. But it was quite variable that in each block about 50% are very easy and straight forward. 35% need a little attention and careful reading and u will figure it out. The other 15% is vague and u will never know what the true answer is. But overall i marked about 5-10 q in every block and thanks to UW had about 20 mins at the end of each block to solve the marked one and give it a last look. And as a rule time passes very quickly in there that u will find ur self out of the center before u think*how much time did I spend in there*
After the exam I think I had ASD and i mean the full picture with remembering only the q u think u had it wrong. But I stopped thinking and i had the best vacation ever in Dubai for the following 5 days
The day of the result honestly did not think about the result afterward and was just hoping for the best .I thought i was a strong person but when i clicked on the hyperlink of that PDF i thought a gave myself SVT. But thank God,245 i was astonished by the result. And probably froze for couple of moment before realizing that i finally did it.
Last word: im sorry this was too long but I want to show u that even if u r an IMG and with no step 1 or special books or SP. u can do whatever u want if u believe in Ur self. And if i did it u can do better. Have faith in ur self and with strong will there is nothing u can't do. And remember that step 2 ck doesn’t only examine ur knowledge but also ur technique. And do not forget guys: we are in the amazing business
I hope this was helpful
