Help What is it with CK?

Hello everybody.
I took CK last year after writing my step 1 and I failed.
I restarted my preparation aagain after I accepted my failure, which was not easy... as I mentioned in my post when I found out I failed, I found the exam to be really tough and I don't understand it since I can swear my preparation was way better than I did for step 1.

But, ok... nobody was gonna believe that and my intentions here aren't to refugee in excuses. But I finally got into studying again for this exam since october 2012 and I am focusing 102%... I have an average 72% in UW (first time, unused and timed mode) and as it happenned the first time I studied for this exam I really believe UW is super straightforward and easy!!!

I am really sure I AM readier than ready for this exam, I am familiar with the material and I wanna take it again in a month.
Today, I just did NBME form 4 and I thought it was fair enough... however, I got a 163!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't understand!!! Please give me any advice what should I do? I know the material and I know I'm a terrible test taker but I can't afford failing this exam AGAIN!!!! :sorry:

Thanks.

Btw... I am using Step Up for CK, UW, and Secrets as study materials.

This is what happened to me in Step 1.

You're missing out on some study material. People say MTB is a must.

Did you do nbme 4 online?

Try memorizing or running through your UW notes/step up/secrets one more time. Then, take UWSA.

MTB 2 and MTB 3 for specialties may be what you are missing. Remember UW tests on bits and pieces of everything, but the whole picture is on those books. Besides, you've already used UW before in your first attempt so you may already be familiar with the qs and answers and you may be overscoring.

I would say MTB or the new FAid which is solid in it's new color format. Def Uworld, know every word inside and out. Take the assessment when you are ready and NBMe 4 as well to gauge performance. It's a tough exam and only lots of studying over and over with the books and qbanks will get you decently prepared. I am sure you will rock it this time!!!

Don't try to take the test soon till you figure out what went wrong is the best advice I can give you right now.

Secondly, I would advise you to change your strategy since it did not work for you the first time.

I suggest doing KLNs with videos for the first month. If you don't want to do KLNs then do MTBs with Kaplan videos and make notes on MTBs (MTB 2 for IM and MTB 3 for the rest). Kaplan videos are essential to develop an understanding of the topics since memorization does not help much for Step 2 CK to get a decent score which you will need under your circumstances.

Second month, do UW (as a leaning tool) and again make notes on MTB from UW.

Third month, revise your notes on MTB and take UWSA / NBME (whichever you have not done).

Since you have already done UW try Kaplan or USMLE consult Q Banks for practice which will give you a different perspective on the topics. Both of them, however, have some WTF/weird and some outright wrong questions/explanations but if you know your tpoics well you should be able to figure them out and ignore the.

Remember, a Q Bank which makes you uncomfortable is a good Q Bank for you since it is better to feel uncomfortable while preparing for the test (where you can do something about it) then during the test.

The most important advice I can give you is that developing an understanding of one topic is far more important than memorizing 10 topics for this test.

If you don't like MTBs then you might want to substitute FA 2012 both of which lacks some HY topics/details which are filled by UW.

Good Luck.
