Smile Kas123 Step 2 CK Experience

Hey Everyone,

Hope all is well in internet land with everybody. I have held off posting my step 2 ck experience, I took it Dec 28th but needed some time to digest the experience cause I was totally freaked out. This post is just my experience and is not intended to freak any one else, however I am going to be brutally honest with how things went for me. Here it goes:

1) The test was really really long, the day dragged on forever and it really takes a lot of stamina to stay focused, so bring food, drink and snacks you will need some energy.
2) I guess the most important part. The test for me was a horrible experience, it was very challenging. I studied really really intensely for the exam, I had good Uworld scores, good nbme's and good UWSA score of 252 and I felt that Uworld was not even close to the exam. Again this is just my opinion. I would say Uworld prepared me for about 40% of the questions that were asked. The other 30% questions the stems were convuluted between two possible disease states (let's say for example they made it sound like possibly MS, or possibly myasthenia for example) and you had to dissect the really key facts to figure out which exactly disease or problem the patient had. Once I finally figured out which disease it was I then went to the answer chances which were really vague and they did not offer the clear answers that Uworld did, they were 2nd or third order answers and almost always two or three answers seemed correct. I did my best to narrow it down and pick the most likely answer, but I did not feel comfortable on most questions. I would say another 10% were straight give me questions with buzzwords that were easy, but I did not get a lot of these. The last 20% were just items that no matter how much I studied I would have never gotten right without memorizing Harrisons word for word. Again this is just my experience. I know Dr Laura mentioned in her posts as well that the question answers were very vague and I totally agree 100%
3) Drug ads, I wish I could tell you more about them, I was so pressed for time that I barely got to them. Timing is a real tough thing on the test. I would finish Uworld with 10-20mins timed random on almost every block, but on this test I barely finished the blocks or barely had any other time to go back and review
4) # of questions per block. 45, 45, 44, 43, 45, 43? I think, 44, 40.
5) I left feeling like I guessed on so much and feel really defeated because I studied so hard, I honestly left feeling like I failed. I have talked with quite a number of people who took the test in the last 2-3 months and they all felt the same about the exam however all of them got their results and were pleasantly surprised, so am hoping for the same thing.
6) With all of this being said, I am praying for a decent result, I put a ton of blood sweat and tears in, hopefully it will pay off. I will share my score when I get it with everyone on here. Best of luck to all of you studying now. If you have any specific questions fire away. I am sure all of you will do great and hopefully, you do not feel the way I did after the test.

I did the Kaplan Videos through out the rotations over the last 6 months or so. They were great but take a lot of time to get through if you wanna absorb. However my dedicated study time was about 2 months. I used MTB and at the end discovered the new color first aid which I thought was really good. I also read step up 2 step 2 one time, wasn't impressed with it. I did Uworld and Kaplan Qbank also. Thanks for the for the good luck and kind words!! Best of luck with 2 u as well.

I took my test last Dec 21. I also have decent UW, UWSA, NBME scores. But yep! Like you, I feel like I guessed on most questions. I had anginal episodes for a week after my exam every time I remember a question from CK. Right now, I'm just glad step 2 CK is over. I'm keeping my hopes up that I did ok.

Good luck to the both of us!

Default UW and exam

Ya i totally understand this. Everyone says UW is very useful for exam. Its right but regarding concepts but coming to questions pattern in step 1 exam- Questions were longer then UW and options were more confusing. So we end up exam as most exam went on guess basis.
But i heard "Hard work always pay off". So be happy you will have great scores.

As you shared this valuable info. Can you mention some points which you could have done more to feel more comfortable in exam. Thanks

What you think? FA or MTB 2 which one was more helpful? If FA was helpful is some aspects, Can you mention which one??

I think it all comes down to how much time you have to study for sure. No matter what the test is challenging. However if I had more time and could do it over again I would have watched the Kaplan vids like I did but also read the Kaplan Lecture notes, however they take a long time to get through.

I think a read through of MTB is essential to get the basics down and learn the next best steps. Once you have read that I would move onto the new color edition FA, just my opinion. FA is helpful in the sense it covers everything and has a lot of the information you would normally be copying into your book from Uworld which is nice. The rapid reviews at the end of the book correlate nicely with the chapters for high yield review. The color is pretty sweet, and there is a decent amount of pics, which is essential since I had about 5-6 ekg's on my test and a lot of radiographic images. My friends have all been using the new first aid and scoring really well. Again all the books have good information, the most important thing is qbanks and being able to answer questions quickly. Hope that helps a bit.

Thanks for the luck, I def will need it.

percents:

Everything done random timed 1st time through....
Uworld Average - 72%
Kaplan Average - 64% (found this bank to be a bit harder and did it first)
NBME 1 - 220 (Did it about 2 months ago)
UWSA - 252 (did this about 10 days before the exam and decided that was it for assessments, didn't feel like spending the money)

In last week, I reviewed Uworld wrong answers and read the notes I had made during my studies.

Good luck!

Hard to say, I think it's a personal choice. Depends on you. If you have the time then it may be worth it, if you are pressed for time remember Uworld is still the best resource.
