Psyche Atypical depression....?

For atypical depression, if both SSRI and MAOI is given in the option which one to choose as the most appropriate pharmacotherapy...?????

MTB 2 says,for atypical depression use MAOIs (510 page)

SSRIS are first line treatment..thanks for asking this question. :thumbup: I wonder why I never got this doubt.

And it wouldn't be the first time there's an error in MTB..its full of them.

MAOI are never the first line therapy for anything unless they are the only possible answer among the choices given.

MAOI are the most effective therapy for atypical depression but that doesn't mean that you prescribe them as a first line therapy.
Always remember, you prescribe according to the side effect profile of a medication.

Means if in the answer choices,both options SSRI and MAOI are present,we should choose an SSRI.

Bottomline:

If both are mentioned in the options, Choose SSRI over MAOI due to its side effect profile.(mentioned in MTB 2)

If only MAOI is listed in the options, pick that one....
