CT Scan Contrast versus Non Contrast CT

What is in the differential for Non-enhancing CT scans?

From what I could gather from other forums and elsewhere,

Contrast for
Basically anything with a "leak"? I can understand how tumors and infections would disrupt the vasculature and cause them to leak. Does that mean the contrast then collects within the infection/tumor itself causing a localized area for the contrast?

What exactly then is "ring enhancing"? How does that differ from regular enhancement? That it cannot penetrate through the outer wall of the lesion?

That was for the brain. But what about the rest of the body and contrast/noncontrast CT?

It seems like from other sources that you give contrast CTs for everything except kidney stones. Diverticulosis, diverticulitis, etc. Isn't there a risk that the contrast can then go into the peritoneal cavity?

Is contrast bad for the peritoneum? Barium thats bad for the peritoneum? Some other material?
