Hey,

I havent taken the exam yet, but from what I've heard from other people, I think it's a common thing to run out of time. I also know of people who did not get to 2-3q/block and still ended up with 240+.

hope that helps

I had almost exactly same experience you had. I just did my test at this Tuesday. I missed 3-4 questions every block. The real test was lengthier and harder than NBME (much) and CD (a little). I am an old IMG and did not have much clinical experience. I am busy with my research work recently and have not had much time to prepare. But I decided not to postpone the test because my NBME 4 reached my expectation (I got 550/242 a week ago). I did the CD 3 days before the test and felt the time was an issue. I missed 3 questions on the 3rd block. I got 78% correct on the CD. However, I ignored this huge alarm and went to take the test anyways.

Exactly as how you felt, I did not have enough time for every single block. All blocks had 44 or 45 questions and I had to miss at least 2-3 of them. I tried to speed up after the first block and found it was even worse because I often did not get any information retained in my mind after I rushed through the questions and had to read it again. One block I had 5 questions to go at the 5 minutes warning. I tried to rush through all of them but I did not figure out what they were really asking about for one single question. Finally, I gave up and did like this: at the 5 minutes warning, I just randomly click an answer for all the rest questions and then came back to do the question using the same pace until the computer closes the test.

I think I failed the test not only because I missed so many questions but also I got nervous and made a bunch of silly mistakes. Please let me know how your final result is. I will come back to report to you too no matter my result turns out to be.

Take home message for the upcoming fellows: if you are an IMG and think time might be an issue for you, you have better to manage it very well before you take the real test. The real test is harder and lengthier than NBME and the CD. You do not need to read every single word for the questions but you need to know which part you may skip for what type of questions. You have to find your own way to handle the time issue before you go to the test. It will be TOO LATE if you have to find a new strategy to handle it after a couple of blocks in the real thing.

I did the UW first time with tutorial mode. So, I had no problem with the time when I did it the second time. However, I was not very good either. I usually had 2-3 mins left for each block. I feel the real test is as lengthy as UW or a little bit more, not too much. However, those questions in the test all are brand new to you and you may need a little bit more time. My personal suggestion is that if you can finish the UW in time with all questions are new to you, you will be fine. If you do it again, you should have at leat 5-10 mins left for each block, otherwise, you will feel time is an issue for you in the real test.
I hope this may help you a little bit, good luck!

I promised to come back and report my score to you. I got my score report today and I got 217, which is about 20 points lower than my NBME and UWSA scores. Anyway, just a suggestion for IMGs like me. CK questions are lengthy and vague. You need to have clear concepts, read fast and make decisions quickly. Do a lot of practices and learn to control your pace in the test. Good luck to everyone.
