did u read FA or MTB or u will rely only on KLNs?

KLN are over 1400, i think it is gonna be hard to condense them b4 exam

another thing, have u done step1 or this is ur first?

want to join ......
im thinking of taking the exam by the end of April - early May
i studied kaplan books and did one round of U WORLD ( but that was from May to October 2011) then started internship
with very occasional reading during internship year ... it was difficult
and now started since early January with Kaplan Q bank ( i find it difficult to open the books again ) hoping to finish it by the end of this month( i had to stop for 2 weeks in January as i was preparing for my interview in my country's hospital residency) some times referring to MTB2 and 3 ( they are very useful high yield and to the point
after finishing the Q bank thinking of revising the notes and taking an NBME to know where an i standing ... and to decide wether i need to revise the books or no
important advice .... set a score and act upon it and know that ur mind will work according to that specific score ..... so aim higher
Good luck guys ... inshallah together we will ace this exam

Glad to see same people on a similar time frame.

about me: No kaplan reading, just jumped into MTB and UW. my UW everage after 8 blocks is 54%. now reading MTB2 on page 203, will start GI tomorrow inshaAllah.

I MUST give the exam no later than June ending for me to apply the match. However, my deadline is May 24th.

Material: 1. MTB 2. UW 3. My own notes of 300 pages. 4. Secrets

Goal: 230+ a MUST! but I want a 240+

Let's keep each other motivated friends. Can we use this as page for clarifications of some topics that may be confusing?

Thumbs Up

Excellent thread.

I took my step 1 in late December and passed. Started my prep for step 2 in late January. I have started by reading MTB 2, watching Conrad's video and annotating along.
I'm currently reading chapter 10 Nephrology. Hope to be done with Internal Medicine this week and right way start Peds. I'm planning to be done with my first read and video of everything by mid March than of to UW + more note taking.
My target exam date is the third week of May and aiming for a 240+.

Biostat it's basically a repeat of step 1 stuff so since you have some understanding from step 1. I would suggest just know every concept that UW covers. I think that's more than enough.

People are recommending revising step 1 book or info and that should suffice, well in my case i didn't attempt step 1 ... so i'm relying on step2 materials
I think if u have time go over kaplan note for biostat + videos the guy is explaining the info in a simple way ( but needs time) after finishing them or while u are studying them u can use U worl subject review for biostat ( 30 dollars = 3 months ) which im using .. whenever i feel bored i would open it learn key concepts then return to my initial studying schedule ( i think it's a good review tool if u have time .... u can fit it into ur spare time) after that solve the U WORLD Qbank Biostats Questions .... then ur ready to go i assume . or atleast that is what im hoping for

Im also joining your gang, have started kaplan notes and as a experience from step 1, i started UWorld as soon as possible, My plan is similar to Dr Dreams() which is focusing on UWorld + mastering the boards + secrets. if I have any time left will finish kaplan notes.

Lets keep in touch and keep motivated till the end !!

Default nice

nice to see all with the same time frame, now a piece of advice,
i am doing kaplan qbank subject wise,
and since i encounter surgery which i am solving now, i urge u to leave it as the last one to solve, since most of its questions rely on different branches, it is like u r solving a random block not subject wise
i missed plenty of silly questions which affected my cumulative performance based on the previous fact

good luck and keep it up

Default how to make uworld notes?

Was wondering how you guys are going about making Uworld notes? I understand that it is very necessary to do so in Step 2 but don't really want to make the notes on a separate Word doc or notebook. Would much rather annotate in MTB 2 itself so I have just one (or two w/ MTB 3) at the end.
What's your take on it?

Hi sorry for the delay, i was just busy with my prometric confirmation. Ok coming to the point, i already had one read on kaplan while i was doing intern. So right now iam not gonna touch that one. Iam focusing mainly on uworld n mtb 2. By tomarrow iam going to start pediatrics from mtb 3. No i didnt give step 1. This is my first appearence. What about u?

For me I annotate into MTB and I only write things I think are better explained or is totally new to me. but try to minimize your note taking volume. Just annotating the pertinent positives.

finished step1 late september, but didn't touch CK until late december
fluctuation in performance all jan and then serious study starting from 5th of Feb
i was supposed to finish the KLN in Jan but couldn't so, i skipped half gyna and peds and the entire IM LOL and switched to FA (except surgery from MTB3) and kaplan

enshalla by march 20th should start the UW+MTB

i have to say that MTB is just amazing in terms of (initial test ) (best next step) ....etc , the thing u see when solving the blocks, while FA is much betters in terms of condensed info and whole picture....

so basically, FA is for building a background and MTB for art of solving...that's how i feel about both books

well it takes me around 4-6 hours to finish a block ... but at the end it doesn;t matter as long as am understanding what am solving ......what matter is injesting the informations ... not finishing quickly

good to hear that coz i made my primary schedule relying on 3 hours per block and i lagged so much behind, so thank God i am not alone

Doing IM now plan to finish that by march 2 and start with mtb . My over all is somewhere at 56 percent but i dont really care , since i am learning stuff and making notes. I dont plan on doing surgery or obgyn tests.

i think kaplan q bank is very strong in surgery .( it may be a little difficult but it covers all the essential informations).. so i would recommend atleast doing the surgery section

Embarrassed 70+

today was the first block i manage to break the 70% barrier....almost 52% done but my cumulative performance is still 56%
i would say it is somehow average.....let's hope some improvement towards the second half of the qbank

seems i will have to start UW directly after i finish the kaplan Qbank enshalla....there is a 10 day delay in the schedule that exhausted my dream to make a full revision of mtb b4 starting the uw

seems i will have to start UW directly after i finish the kaplan Qbank enshalla....there is a 10 day delay in the schedule that exhausted my dream to make a full revision of mtb b4 starting the uw

i think u r doing fairly good , just try to increase the cumulative score as u move on with the rest of the Q bank
BTW are u doing it timed mixed or subject wise ( which i'm doing )
i'm doing it untimed tutor ... taking my time understanding questions , have radiology only to go ( 34 questions )and after that intending to revise the note +- MTB +- notes ( i didn't revise most of the materials for almost a year ) and then i will take NBME 4 hope i will get a decent score then i will start u WORLD ( i did it for one month as i stated before but that was in sept 2011 )
hoping for the best
keep this post alive guys .... keep updating

Show Teeth zup fellas

the thread was dead for few days

well, i am now 77% done with kaplan qbank, averaging 58%, Thank God my score elevated 3% from when i was at 50%done, the reason is i integrated MTB2 with my study and it made a difference,
in the first half of the bank i used to average mid-fifties, now thank GOD mid-60s early 70s......but the cumulative score can't be pulled up that quick

planning enshalla to finish within a week and then i will see whether to start UW directly or to stop for ten days for full cover to cover revision of MTB2 and qbank notes revision

@ oraiby: what was ur cumulative performace if u don't mind? and did u find UW easier now coz of kaplan qbank or not?

what about u guys? Y U No post no more???

my story may not imply to you as i stated earlier , that i did the u world question in October 2011 as i was preparing for another exam ( at that time i did it one time untimed tutor subject wise ended up with 71% )
then i stopped studying and resumed 2 months+15 days back ,,,,, my Kaplan Q bank cumulative score is 79% ( untimed subject wise )
- now started U WORLD also subject wise , Timed tutor . im not having a problem with time that is why im doing it tutor ,subject wise ,,i think this way i absorb informations more effeciently ...( and i'm reviewing my old notes prior to any subject )
i found that Kaplan Q bank is very helpful , it helped me solve many questions in the U WORLD

Hello everyone,

My current pace is very slooooooooooooow. Done with 50 % U world and my score fluctuating still so badly. So should I just take a break and give another round of reading MTBs or just continue solving tests

Guys ... I have scheduled my exam on 25 june ...I am done with around 55% of Kaplan qbank averaging around 75%...I am gonna leave kaplan in the middle ..because it does not feel like the real representative of exam..I did two blocks of Uworld today scoring in late seventies and early eighties ... Wish me luck and stay in touch

Default deciding exam date

Okay guys, I am currently completely messed up prepping for CS and CK. CS is may 13th. Will be taking CK end of may. So How do i decide my exam date for CK and book a slot. Have done MTBs once, UW 20% left ( 71%) . I don't know if I'm really ready but I need to finish taking exam by may end as I start obsies in june and doubt if I would be able to manage both

i think u can focus on CK only for now and postpone CS till maximum July 12th, so ur results can be out around August 15th, before the match......i think u can manage ur CS study while doing obsi, but u can't do the same with CK....that's what i am doing right now, had to postpone my CS till first week of july.....

good luck mate
