Drug Metranidazole in 1st trimester

For bacterial vaginosis and trichomoniasis Kaplan says you can use even oral metranidazole during first trimester but Uworld says you cant because of the systemic administration can be teratogenic especially in first trimester
so oral metranidazole or clindamycin cream which is the right answer for a pateint with bacterial vaginosis in first trimester??

metronidazole is category B drug and not effectively proven as teratogenic to avoid....so can be used if any conditions warranted....like vaginosis

but also topical metronidazole would be safe in 1st trimester than oral to use.....it's just my opinion

thanks

Vaginal metronidazole and gel has a 50% failure rate, CDC and eMedicine recommend ORAL metronidazole

If it is Bacterial Vaginosis both are effective, but if it is Trichomoniasis only Oral therapy for patient and partner is effective.

If the case is clearly of bacterial vaginosis they will have to give you one clear cut option, they cant put both

If the case however is of trichomoniasis then they can give you both and you will need to pick ORAL metronidazole.
