Hi! Im doing the same. Havn't started questions yet though. For more resources are you just using uworld or any other books/kaplan qbank? Not sure what to do next as MTB's are pretty deficient.

I respect everything you say my friend but this post is totally out of proportion.. how can the majority of people get over 250 when the mean is 237? the majority of people that post their scores DO get 250 but they are in fact a minority in forums.

I studied the same stuff people recommend, I did DIT during the last few weeks of my prep.. it is not required but it is good if you want to review.. however it is extremely boring and a lot of people dont like it

IM waiting for an opportunity to go to Bascom Palmer to do research but their human resources department is quite of slow..

I plan to take step 3 before the match and im aiming to get above 240..
My surgical clerkship was at Mayo minnesota and the ophto was at tampa general hospital and in a private clinic.

Lets see what happens lol if not im gonna apply to optho here in Mexico
I would love to be in the US but if I cant then that will be all right as long as I pass all of the steps I will be happy

DUDE, anyone with OPTHO this year who had US clinical experience matched.

do not sell your self short. do not ever sell your self short.

I know on this forum everyone wants primary care, but people like me, you, and couple of others want some competitive specailties.

I am applying for Radiological research and trying to volunteer at the moment after step 1.

My dream is radiology, I think I can get a LOR from here by end of August.

SO my advice 10000% apply to optho, srugery and IM

Wow. I guess the books are missing that much huh?! Have you looked into FA for CK or Step up to step 2? Maybe they're not so bad. Im still reading MTB's, hoping to start questions next week. Are you doing kaplan and uworld side by side? Do you think kaplan is helpful in any way? I'm still contemplating whether i should do it for sometime. And dont worry about writing so much! In the end, you're just preparing yourself better and learning more

unfortunately i have no idea how good are those books
After reading on this forum and on amazon reviews i directly bought mtb2 and 3

I did kaplan first and had a big time problem with a time management-long question stems but worth doing i guess cause as far as i know exam questions may be even longer
UW is easier compared to kaplan shorter stems and straight forward
So far i like both

What?! I disagree and advice you to stop freaking out people here. 250+ is a really good score and "majority" do not get it.

Good to see you took the time to read the entire thread and the responses and even Shima's explanation of what she meant by that comment.

I would advise that you start reading a thread before commenting and making a fool of yourself.

I looked at the whole thread, including the inane conversations not pertaining to the thread title. The sentence that "majority people get 250+ in CK" is still seriously misleading.

And that was corrected, no need to repeat what 2 other people including myself already stated. If you read the whole thread and still posted then you have some comprehension issues

why create heat in the first place.

clearly is important to read the whole post, to understand our conversation.

reading one post and not the rest will only mislead some one who has no spend the time to truly comprehend the issue or post.

To be honest step 2ck is Far tougher than step 1, all the guidelines to be followed are killing me..
Cases are vague, vignettes are longer , Step 1 was simple straightforward..

Hahaha you are cute.
I was just showing that dude that he doesnt read the whole thread.. Ignorance is what has caused heated up discussions and wars since the beginning of times!

I was merely defending you and correcting him (I like to do that from time to time)

Looks there is a mix-up. I wanna clear it. Yes the mean of CK is 237, SD is 21. This means:

1) 68% of CK scores lie between 226-258
2) 95% of CK scores lie between 195-279

Shima said most of people score 250+. She did not say anything wrong. During the last 5 years, especially, the last 2 years, the scores raised dramatically. Not because people are more smart, but because the ideas of the tests get repeated, better and improved review books and resources than those were before 5 years ago....etc.

Before 5 years, it was very very rare to hear scores in 270s. Contrary to that, currently we hear many people score in 270, and 280s to less degree. Which is true as you can see that 279 is just two standard deviations from the mean.

Moreover, 5 years ago, people solely depended on usmle scores to match. It was valid that time as 250s were not common, so those scores got interviews and match.
Contrary to that, now, we can see people with 250s and only get few interviews, or not at all!, if they just have usmles in their applications.

Finally, what program directors assess is the whole application. They will prefer an applicant with 240s, good letters and publications and consider him/her higher than an applicant with 260s without other other factors in his/her application. Let's give an example, HARVARD AND HOPKINS step 1 cutoff for IM interview is just 230 or 235, but they will never even look at your profile is you have 260s without other factors.

AGAIN AND AGAIN, HIGH USMLES HELP YOU TO NOT FILTERED OUT DURING APPLICATIONS REVIEW FOR INTERVIEW SELECTIONS. YOUR COMPLETE APPLICATION WITH OTHER FACTORS THAT MAKE THEM SELECT YOU FOR INTERVIEW AND, IF INTERVIEW GOES WELL, RANK YOU HIGH IN THEIR LIST.

If your goal is to get a very high school, then delay the exam and study more.
