Hi... Doing pulmonology now, got 77% in 1st block. 2 blocks remaining. Hv to complete it today.
Can anyone plz suggest me how can I go through UW 2nd time(if time permits)?? I hv 1 month subscription which expires in 18 more days and i cant go for new subscription now, exam on 27th July. So If I want to go for a revision of UW in a random timed mode what is the best way to do that without repeting questions??

Hey everyone- I have been hearing that MTB 3 is pretty helpful for Step 2 CK as well. Have any of you gone through it? Any inputs? I'm trying to minimize my sources but if MTB 3 is worth the read might give it a shot.

I am reading both MTB 2 & 3. At present doing IM , as for as I am done I feel it is worth reading, u will find some points missing in MTB 2 & for other subjects it is very usefull many points r missing in MTB 2, hv to read MTB 3 to complete.

Default one week to go

Hello everyone,

1 week for exam. NBME 6 online- 227, NBME 4 offline- around 230. UWSA 245. I am aiming for 240 + in exam. I wont be postponing exam and I am in between obsie. So plan for next few days- MTB 2/3 for weak topics. UW notes in between. I really feel under confident about MTBs even after studying twice. So will try focusing only on this. Lets see how far I go..

Mtb3 is very great source for pediatric and gyn/obs ... But mtb2 is better for IM.

Good luck

Hey everyone, got a question about kaplan qbank

Right now finished 10% of the qbank (i know a short sample size) and im scoring average of 61%.. Would be higher if it wernt for one block that i practically fell asleep on but was wondering.. What are good scores to have while doing the qbank for the first time?

according to the kaplan qbank, the average user is only 58%

So I ordered MTB 3. It seems to be pretty much the same material as Step 2. I am planning on going through the surgery/peds/OB/Gyn section of MTB 3. Glancing through the IM portion it seems like there are not much differences. Any of you using MTB 3 have any suggestion or noticed any major differences?

Study the sections your weak in would be the best advice really if you want to increase your score the most. No point going over the subjects you already perfected.

Only look at wrong answers and do 4 blocks a day.

Thats a good option... But is it ok to skip few questions entirely bcoz this my first time n people say each n every explanation is important! !
Anyway I will first do d blocks n read wrong explanations first n at d end if time permits will read right ones as well.... Thanks Sadde...

Since your exam is close, there isn't any point in taking down UW notes. I feel that writing and paraphrasing notes from UW is what takes the largest amount of time.
I suggest that instead of taking down notes, you proceed with a "scorched earth policy", i.e. Read and absorb and digest as much as possible before moving on to the next block.

Good luck!

Hello everyone!

My exam is on 19th July today my UW subscription ended and I managed to do 70% of UW for the second time. I realized I had some difficulties with some questions because I kept making the same mistakes. My average score went from 75% (first round) to 81% (second time) but I didn't reset my subscription. I took UWSA 2 weeks ago and scored 247.

Now, I have only 9 days until the big day. What do you guys advice me to do? Should I take an NBME or study MTB2 and 3? I don't really feel confident with all the information in MTB, but I don't know if I have enough time to finish reading everything. Plus, some information from MTB is a bit contradictory to UW.

Good luck with your studies and let's hope for the best!

No, I didn't take any NBME. Only UWSA. I was thinking to take NBME 6, because it is the most recent.

Good luck to you too!

Good luck with your study Kathylynn! I know the road to residency can be really hard, with ups and downs but remember the goal, have faith and you will succeed. This is my last exam and I will be done... :sorry: until the residency interviews season.

Some surgery facts:

1. Testicular cancer:

- never do a biopsy
- perform a radical orhiectomy by the inguinal route first;
- responds well to chemotherapy (platinum based)

2. Patient with metastatic bone disease from prostate cancer:

- do a orhiectomy (lasts1-2 years); or
- LH agonists; or
- antiandrogens (flutamide)

3. Low implantation of ureter (girl that is wet with urine all the time):

1. Physical exam
2. IVP

Treatment: surgery

4. 16yo that goes beer drinking binge and develops a colicky flank pain

Dg: ureteropelvic junction obstruction
Do a US to diagnose

5. Never do a prostatic massage in an acute bacterial prostatis

Risk of septic shock

So far done with UW 1st pass with 72% accumulative.
NBME 2 223
I'm reading MTB 2 now and MTB 3.
Planning on reviewing as soon as I'm done with MTBs the UW notes that I have extensive notes from UW, and that's basically it. Plus do NBME 4 and 6 and UWSA.
Any tips??????????
Should I do UW again??? I have extensive notes by the way

Correction:
Suspected testicular cancer should undergo an Ultra Sound or some other non-invasive testing, you cant just cut the balls off!

Never do a FNA, because of the risk of seeding the tumor

just did nbme 4 and scored a 219 (410). Not bad at all! Scored a 204 (340) one nbme 2 six weeks ago and now i see at least some improvement. Got my exam in 3 weeks. I gotta keep pushing!!!!!!!!!!!

I also got a question. I bought the extended format exam and i have no clue how to tell if i got a certain question right or wrong! Is this normal that i just see what options i picked.

Hey you all... I am scheduled for 27th July and I feel like Im really pressed on time and I could do significantly better if I took my exam in Mid Aug.
The August takers here, do you guys think 10 days late of result would affect us really bad?

Here's the main question- Our school doesn't release MSPE's until Oct 1st, so do they even look at the applications that are missing out on a significant part of their application which is the MSPE? Without the MSPE, is the application considered incomplete?
Thankyou! Wishing us all a very good luck! Its almost that time......

I took the decision and booked it for mid-August. Dont know if it will end up hurting me more than it will do me any good, but I dont want to have any regrets later on.

Applying on time is definitely much better if you can reach your peak potential by then. However, applying early with an "average" score is worse than applying later with a "great" score.

Default hi everyone

hi everyone. i just saw this question in nbme 3 and i am confused in its answer can anyone help me out?

A previously healthy 6-month-old boy is brought to the physician because of a 12-hour history of vomiting and diarrhea. He vomits after all feedings, the vomitus does not contain blood or bile. His mother says that he has had fewer wet diapers than usual during this period. He appears dehydrated and is crying without tears. He is at the 50th percentile for length and 30th percentile for weight. He appears lethargic. His temperature is 38C (100.4F), pulse is 180/min, and blood pressure is 60/40 mm Hg. Examination shows sunken eyes, dry mucous membranes, and a sunken anterior fontanel. Arterial blood gas analysis on room air shows:
pH 7.2
PCO2 38 mm Hg
PO2 90 mm Hg

Which of the following is the most likely explanation for this patient's arterial blood gas findings?
A) Excessive metabolic acid formation
B) Impaired ventilation
C) Increased chloride loss
D) Increased CO2 concentration in the extracellular fluid
E) Increased metabolic acid produced by the gastrointestinal tract .

Default Kindly Guide

Hello guys. This is Masab. I am about to take CK after two months. But the problem is that my ECFMG registration got delayed due to some unfortunate delays in documentations. ECFMG registration is still in process and nowadays they r taking 6-8 weeks to complete it.My eligibility period is July-Aug-Sep. My Uworld random timed score was 77 percent and my NBME 2 n 4 score is 246/540 in each. My target is 250+. I have done UW twice. Now I am revising the stuff in form of mtb 2 n 3 along with my UW notes but I want to stay in touch with solving questions because i have about 2 months still. So I am confused whether to do UW for the third time or should I do some other qbank like Kaplan. Many people say that kaplan qbank is of no use. Just keep on revising Uworld. But am fed up of seeing same questions again and again. Please guide me what to do in these last 6-8 weeks. Thakns. Have a nice time.

I can believe this I am exactly in the same situation registration problems and similar scores I decided to watch comprehensive cases by Dr.fischer videos and may be DIT videos along with mtb and uw notes if I got delayed after august first I will subscribe uw q bank again and do it quickly in a 2 or 3 wks, hopefully by that time I will receive my scheduling permit .

I don't now how many wrong answers I made. But from others form I know that 31-34 mistakes it was 227.
Questions looks like step 1 on pathology, micro, behav science, biostast, SE drugs.
Topics which are often asking on NBME - urinary problems, different kinds of comatose conditions, shock , cardiol, gynecol-endocrinol, child development and preventive medicine.
UW is easier in terms of variety of covered topics.
Good luck with your prep!

I just did NBME 4 offline and I have 23 wrong question...if I apply the formula nr correct questions*1.4 will have a score of (184-23)*1.4 = 225

Is there any other formula for calculating this score?

While feeling completely overwhelmed and stressed out because of work, CK, and the match...a little gift was presented to me in the form of a 75% score on a random timed UW block

It's amazing how this small and probably insignificant sign can lighten up my mood and recharge my batteries.

We're almost done everyone! We're almost free! Just a final sprint left before the finish line!

Just finished NBME 6 online and took 550/248 with 21 wrong questions. I felt the form had really short questions, a lot of buzz words and no drug ads.

I had a really bad performance in normal growth and development (I got a star) any thoughts on how to improve on that?

I wonder how similar are NBMEs to the real exam?...my exam is in 6 days

Im gonna be honest with you , NBMEs are not a good predictor of the exam they overestimate or underestimate alot, i suggest u take UWSA right now.

Self assessments for CK have a larger confidence interval than self assessments for step 1. However, they still point out the obvious, which is the general level you are currently at. Your score is perfect and based on the scores of everyone around me I would say you're in the 250+ level (probably going to scratch the 260 level in the real exam though).

Minor Correction
Good luck!

I have decided to take the test at the last moment due to score delay. Prep has been all over the place for last 5-6 days. Lets see how it goes for next 10 days..D-day then. May take UWSA depending upon how I feel the day before. Really need to focus and keep at it. Today's plan is reading Gynac-from FA and SUP-CK, then 2-UW blocks. Good luck to everyone!

Hello guys, i hope everyone is doing good and are working hard towards their dream. Good luck to everyone again.

I have been doing okay. Kaplan done, MTB done once , still doing u-world. My exam is on august 9th. My problem is my u-world scores are around 70-75 consistently right now in random, tutor. I am doing tutor cause it helps me immediately revise the entire answer and note down what ever i want to. Do you guys i should change to Random, timed. I still make sure i answer the question in between 60-90 sec. Secondly, some times although i get the answer correct, i feel there is a lot i don't know.

All suggestions are welcome. And All the best to everyone who has their tests right around the corner.

You are doing exactly what you should. This is better than going timed and then coming all the way back and reading through each and every answer again! Try to finish uworld within 1 week or a little more than a week. Then start going for timed random mode. And 70-75 is good. Good luck

Thank you so much ..! I think the left over uworld should take 8-9 days and then one more go at mtbs and uworld.!! Lets do this guys

Yes, stay calm is the best advice...my exam is in 5 days.

What would be some of the things that I should revise in the last day/days?

Exam is booked for first week of august but I'm not feeling very confident. Took NMBE 2 1 month ago and got 223.
Finished UW with 72% but still I feel I don't know anything
I started a new UW subscription today.
I probably will not finished for my target day so I guess I have to postpone my test at least 3 weeks.
Let's see how it goes.
Not easy studying with an 11 month old baby. I get home tired from studying and then I have to take care of him, by the time I get him in bed I'm dead so I can't study more at night time. I want to finish with this ASAP.

I'm pretty sure this is a case of Midgut Volvulus due to malrotation! This is pretty high-yield for pediatrics! What happens is that the malrotated intestine wraps around the duodenum obstructing it. This causes bowel ischemia, similarly to an incarcerated hernia, and the ischemic bowel produces lactic acid which drops the blood pH.. Hope this helps.. But I think here is not appropriate to put spoilers of NBMEs..

Guys, I have a question! I'll be writing my CK next week July 24th. Do you think that the 3 wednesdays rule for the result will be applicable to those like me who are taking the test before july 27th? Or a delay should be expected?

That formula is not accurate! Forget it! Your result is something around 249-252, considering that you indeed got 23 questions wrong, since there are some errors on those offline answer keys.. I'm pretty confident on that score, a friend of mine took nbme 4 online also got 23 questions wrong and got a 249.

Default Please Guide

I am about to take CK in August. But the problem is that my ECFMG registration got delayed due to some unfortunate delays in documentations. ECFMG registration is still in process and nowadays they r taking 6-8 weeks to complete it. My Uworld random timed score was 77 percent and my NBME 2 n 4 score is 246/540 in each. My target is 250+. I have done UW twice. Now I am revising the stuff in form of mtb 2 n 3 along with my UW notes but I want to stay in touch with solving questions because i have about 1 month still. So I am confused whether to do UW for the third time or should I do some other qbank like Kaplan or should I just stick with my UW notes n mtb2/3. Many people say that kaplan qbank is of no use. Just keep on revising Uworld. But am fed up of seeing same questions again and again. Please guide me what to do in these last 6-8 weeks. Thakns.

I wonder how similar are NBMEs to the real exam?...my exam is in 6 days
This is a video that helped me a great deal on Step1:

Forget Kaplan qbank!! Very low yield, I gave it a try for the minors, but they have veeeeryyyy long question stems assessing low-yield zebras, specially pediatrics. OB/GYN is quite similar to UW and Psych has some good questions here and there. Surgery is perhaps the only one that I found really useful, since their questions resembled more those of NBMEs. So, I don't recommend kaplan at all!
I'm writting CK next wednesday, and one thing that had some benefit and surprised me is DIT for CK. I'm using the 2011 version, DIT kind of help you memorize 'till exhaustion some high yield facts that saves you time in some questions.

Hey everyone

I got a question. When were given our 2 white boards and a marker pen to sit for the exam. I'm just wondering what are some quick fact points you guys are going to list on your white boards!

I was thinking of memorizing the CO/TPR/PCWP charts for the different types of shock and list it on one of the boards. What are some concepts you guys are considering putting on one of your boards to use?

UWSA 216 yesterday:
Block 1 61%
Block 2 48%
Block 3 80%
Block 4 61%

Rescheduled my exam to 15 August. That's exactly four weeks from now.

Plan:
-3 weeks, go over MTB and UW/incorrect
-NBME
-1 week, scan everything while focusing on weak points.

Target score: 240+

Please tell me what you guys think. Also, if its possible to jump to 240 in 4 weeks.

Thanks
