Angry Step 2 CK is getting HARDER !!!

I took the Step 2 CK this weekend - and it was annoyingly HARD !!! The concepts tested were strange and not in the common review materials.

I thought it was probably because my preparation may have been sub-par, but I think in the last two months, a lot of people have had a similar experience.

What do you think?

In my experience, most of the concepts tested where not in any review material but they were doable. The questions where very lengthy. I just hope I have answered those questions correctly.
Having said that, in the past I have seen people walking out of the exam hall feeling as if they have failed but they get good scores in the end.

What do you think?

Where all the questions following the same theme as in the prep books? Such as initial test, initial therapy, next step in management, most accurate test...etc. Or where there more to that? What would you advise Someone who has started their prep now?
Thank you for that input, and I hope you get a good score despite the scare.

Questions were 44,45,45,45,45,45,44,44,28 . Found exam to be 30% unrelated, 50 - 60% UW and MTB, 10% step 1 related.. The questions were long I managed finishing every block right on time, did not have time to go back and check marked questions. Drug ads were doable but need to read them twice to understand. But overall need to be quick, know topics from MTB and UW. And leave the rest to an intelligent guess when questions seem crazy.. Good Luck to all giving your exams, will put a detailed post once I get my scores

Default I agree

I agree, I gave my exam on 27th, I felt like I wasted my months reading Kaplan and MTB, exam was completely different, it was using mostly my step 1 knowledge and what I learned during my med school. One block of them had 20+ questions out of this world. I marked them all in the first go, but then at the end used only intelligent guess for them, but I thing 20 is a big number for intelligent guess. Back pain and arrhythmia were the topics which i was thorough in from UW, but still i was confused in the exam. The exam was very lengthy, at once I had only 19 minutes left with 18 questions.

Hope my results will come back good, I am expecting them o 17th july.

Please pray for me.

I'm happy that one of your hurdles is done. Just Relax and Pray hard. I'm preparing for step 3 now and I just wonder if I can use your Step 2 UW if it's not expired. If it's ok, I just need to renew it for 2 wks before my exam. Thank You so much for your kindness.

@ckmania...I put up a review in a few weeks. I'm very busy at the moment.

Thanks for your responses...I can see I'm not the only one who experienced the difficulty of the exam. I kept telling myself "You're a gladiator"...I took a break after each block just to catch a breath. I still get PTSD when I remember that exam. Yea, it was that annoying.

I think my advice to those preparing will be to try and read in a very conceptual, widespread manner. Also have an open mind when you read the questions and get ready to do a lot of guessing.

well you need to apply lots of things to answer these questions, you need to apply med school stuff, a bit of common sense and rule out the options. Its easy to end up with 2 options but difficult to choose them as they will be pretty closely related. But I felt coming back after exam there is only a limit until which you can prepare. After that your performance will depend on your time management, anxiety and some luck too.

For someone who's starting with the Ck and didn't do the step 1 yet, do you think there would be a lot of surprises?

Default Take Step 1 First...best advice you'll ever get.

Take Step 1 First...best advice you'll ever get.

By a very conservative estimate, there are at least 30% Step 1 questions on Step 2 CK. Also, most of the Step 2 CK pathology is covered in Step 1. There is no doubt that doing the Step 1 first is more beneficial.

What if I do Rapid review pathology, microbiology made ridiculous easy, and pharm flash cards(especially side effects) when doing my CK prep? I was planning to do step1, but the problem is my clinical rounds are too demanding and I've these shelf exams after every few weeks. So, I thought, what the heck, kill two birds with one stone. I did the CK 150 questions and got almost 50% on all the blocks. What do you think?

Took it on 18th. Was planning on 250. Now I am hoping I didn't fail. Needless to say, the exam was hard and went terribly. I wish everyone else good luck .

Hi Mezman! Wow! My exam is in 5 weeks and even though I'm alarmed at the number of people saying the exam is harder, I appreciate the heads up because there's no need doing something the same way and expecting a different result. Hopefully u'll put up a detailed review SOON like u did for the step 1 exam-----I found that really helpful by the way. Thanks and all the best for a good score!

Arrow Harder!

I agree with the discussions.
I just cleared my Ck 2 days back. The questions thread were too long. Some of the questions are weird and never been read in any books. Still hoping for a good results. MTB and UW concepts are very helpful. Free 150's and NBME's are good guide for the exam itself.

I'll keep you posted for my experience....

God Bless!
