Lungs DLCO in Chronic Bronchitis vs Emphysema

Hey, why is DLCO is normal in chronic bronchitis and low in emphysema? whats responsible?

Hi Russia from Ukraine
in Emphysema you don't have enough normal lung tissue . In chronic bronchitis damage only to bronchi.

Exactly, IN emphysema you have destruction of alveoli walls, which decreases the surface area of DLCO movement.

IN emphysema the area affected are terminal and respiratory bronchioles, not the respiratory unit; thats the reason DLCO is unaffected
