Default my 25th July CK exam experience!

This is for the benefit of all those who have been freaking out because of rumors that CK has become difficult, the question pool has changed, the questions are undoable and extremely tough.

Yes it was Tough! but It was nothing out of this world. I would say about 50% of it were pure uworld concepts. 30% were remotely related to Uworld. But anyone who has done Uworld PROPERLY (and by properly I mean, not just read it or skimmed it but memorized it!) is bound to know atleast 60 to 70% of the exam. they may be unsure about the remaining 30% but they will have some idea about those too and will be able to rule out two options at least.

So here goes,

In my view, the exam takers made this exam keeping in mind the psyche of us students. We always leave the shittiest and toughest stuff for the end, we read it but we mostly avoid memorizing it then and there. Atleast I did it and I suffered for it too. So I advise you to do:

1. Strokes. Know them inside out.

2. Biostats. Easy but know NNT, ARR, RR, sensitivity, specificity calculations. I did all of these on the last day and thats why they were easy for me during the exam when time is running out and you need this crap to be on your fingertips.

3. Drug side effects. If you dont have them in one place, open First aid step one pharma portion and you will see a nice page and you will know which drugs to know about.

4. Paediatric syndromes. I had 4 or 5 of them. and I didnt remember them at all. So I messed them up bad. Know them. They know we have trouble doing these things. and they use this against us.

5. Shocks and their differentiation. I got two questions on this one directly and another 2 or three indirectly.

My UWSA was 232 in the end. I took 10 days off from my internship to study for CK and didnt have no time to improve. I quickly went through as many explanations in uworld as I could. The ones I did manage doing, I knew them and could attempt related questions in the exam. The ones I didnt read in the end, I couldnt remember a thing about those topics.

So dont do it like I did. Memorize things. Dont leave stuff for the end. In the end you get too overwhelmed.

TAKE THE LAST DAY OFF. study only a couple of hours if you have to. Watch a movie. Go out. shop. Hang out with friends. This helped me sleep at night. Got 7 hours of sleep.

Take a break after every block. A friend of mine gave me this useful tip and it ended up helping me. I didnt do no two consecutive blocks together and I had lots of energy for every block.

Speed up in the beginning of a block. Stay in full speed mode in the first half hour. Because after that you may not know how long the questions may be or how tricky they may be and then your brain starts wandering a little bit too.

Thats about it. Stay calm. Have faith. Follow your GUT! its always right. before and during the exam.

All the best guys.

My first time uworld percentage was 68%. Second time was 82% but I didnt manage finishing it all. only some 60% of it. My NBME 4 was 225 nine days before the exam and my UWSA score was 232 two days before the exam.

Like I said, Follow your gut. You know your weakest points and the toughest things in medicine and other subjects. Do those. They give stuff they know we havent fully nailed down.

Ethics was tricky. But I did Conrad Fischer's 100 cases in One day. I strongly recommend it. For psychiatry the only thing besides uworld that you need is some substance abuse and psychopharma (both from first aid)

Thank you for your post, very helpful. How were the Ad and abstract questions, are they doable,is UW enough for it? Also, are the ekgs from MTB and UW enough. Thanks, good luck for a good score.

Guys the drugs ads were very simple. The question would be about something plainly mentioned in ad or abstract text. The second question would be about some aspect of the study like bias or randomization. Very basic. I revised biostats on the last day so i saved alot of time on stats questions. 3 blocks of 45, 4 blocks of 44 and the last block of 32 which was from hell. The number of questions doesnt matter. Ur speed does! In one block i had last questions with 5min to go. Out of those 5, 3 turned out to be essays!!! N i had to just click away without thinking. Keep that in your mind during the block. That you gotta do more than half the questions til half time.

I accidentally came across the pharma pages in FA step 1. And they turned out helping me in the end. I did immuno, glycogen and lysosomal diseases from FA step 1.

For murmurs i downloaded an app in my phone. For ekgs and derma pics i mostly googled. And yeah 2 derma images were weird. And i couldnt guess from the scenario either. google for all derma conditions you come across. Derma in the exam didnt come without pictures.
