Wink What I would have done differently for my CK Prep

I took my exam today, and it was fun...crazy.....evil....and sweet.

Now here's some advice

1. You don't need to cram MTB or FA to pass this exam. My exam had like 10% of MTB material. If you need to cram anything, cram the uworld concepts.

2. USMLE World was very helpful in the sense that it helped me analyze quickly. There were a lot of questions that tested concepts similar to what I saw in uworld.

3. Don't waste time reading a thousand books for this exam. What you need to do is solve questions! If you have 3 hours to study in a day, use 2.30 hours to solve questions, and 30mins to read. The more questions you solve, the more you open your mind.

4. The drug ads are medium-easy. Don't sweat them. Leave the drug ads for the end. Read the question before you read the drug ad/abstract.

5. The questions weren't as lengthy as some exaggerate. If you solve the free150, and you didn't pass out, then you are good to go.

6. Trust me on this, don't waste time reading too many books. Invest time in Solving questions.

7. During the exam, you are going to get a mix of very easy questions and very tricky questions. The easy questions are really easy. The hard ones are crazy.

8. Expect step 1 questions. Not a lot, probably like 5%.

9. Most importantly, build your stamina before entering te exam. My last block had 32 questions that were very hard. I had to pinch myself 2ce during the examination cos I was losing focus.

Cheers

Thank you for posting your experience. What you said is exactly what I have been doing but had the doubts in the back of my mind that I should be reading more than I am doing questions. I have been doing about 250-300 questions on average daily, sometimes more. I only go back and read for the wrong answers both from the explanation and MTB. Going through Uworld a third time. Would you suggest any other Questions banks? I subscribed to Kaplan and doing that in the middle.

I went through the first aid q+a book, and some questions from step 3 qbank. I didn't try Kaplan. I don't believe any qbank is useless. There are so many tricky questions in the first aid q+a book. Try it out, maybe a PDF version.

You also need to understand how to interpret lab values. You will save a lot of time in the exam if you know some by heart.

This point is such a relief because the length of questions on Kaplan qBank is driving me nuts, not to mention the difficulty

The length is similar to free150/uworld. It's not extraordinary. Most of the crazy long stems I got were in psychiatry, and you could figure out the diagnosis before you finish reading 2 sentences.

There's a lot of stuff in first aid q+a and I wished I integrated early in my study. I only browsed through the book 4 days to my exam. It helps with data interpretation most def, and it's a useful extra tool.

Thanks. I only did a few blocks in step3 qbank because I was curious about its content. It had really long stems and it helped a bit in building my stamina for the exam. After doing 10 blocks of step3 qbank, step 2ck questions looked puny. So if you have the time, it's a good try. Moreover the content is very similar.

44. The blocks with abstract/drug ads were 43 I think. And last block was 32 really tough mind boggling questions

i think it is renewed yearly. you can try it out after you are done reading/solving your uworld qbank ( or whichever study material you are using). it just gives you an idea of how the questions are framed in respect to length and depth

Hey what percent on Free 150 would be good? I got a 71 % on that. Have 50 % percent of Uworld left to study the explanations for first time. I heard that it is easy but dont know how bad 71 % is. Thanks in advance.

Took my exam about a week ago. I definitely agree with OP. I wish someone had told me this before my exam.

Don't sweat it. This exam is not as complicated as some other's make it out to be. Do UWorld and UNDERSTAND the concepts and you'll do fine.

if you check people with scores above 240, they have at least an 88% on the free 150. but no need to worry about it, you still have about 50% of uworld left, so just keep on studying. dont waste your time reading all the books in the world, solve more questions

. Thank you very much. You gave me the exact idea. That's very helpful to gauge my prep. Thanks again. And best of luck with the scores and match. :-)
