Default Step 2 CK NBME not Matching UWSA

Step 1: 236
UWorld first pass 70%

July1st NBME 4 Online: 256.
I was surprised, although I didn't think it was that hard.

Today I did UWSA + NBME 6 (revised 1 w/e) and I'm having a huge freakout since my exam is this Friday.

UWSA 530 (226)
NBME 6 242

Revised Uworld/Inaccurate answers completed and partial second round on Uworld brought my avg from 70---> 80%. I was scoring 80% + on second pass including inaccurate.

Am I safe to take the exam this friday, or should I postpone? I calmed down a bit more in NBME, and I just couldn't get the rhythm right on uworld. I might add I also did a one block "warm up" on uworld before starting UWSA, so technically today I did 5 blocks before started NBME 6 still managed to hit a decent on NBME. I was really getting fatigued the last 2 blocks. (I used test conditions IE 45min break MAX. Red bull FTW). So I guess I'm pretty crazy because I did 9 blocks total today, 1 Block Warmup, UWSA than NBME 6.

I'm aiming for 240+, ideally 250+. If I postpone, I'd have to postpone my CS which everybody knows is a huge pain as well.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I think it's all down to the fatigue and rhythm as you mentioned.

My scores are similar to yours.
Step 1 - 241
UWorld first pass - about 70%
Kaplan QBank (44% done) - 70%

UWSA July 15th - 247
NBME 6 yesterday - 252

Plan to take NBME 4 in 10 days and do 2 full length Kaplan simulated exams

If I were you I'd go ahead with my planned exam date, especially since you have CS to go. Also, I think we'll end up scoring within 5 points of each other.

Thanks. What's weird though is i took UWSA FIRST, not the NBME.

So I'm not sure why I scored lower on the UWSA rather than the NBME even though I was really fatigued on the last 2 blocks on the NBME.

At this point, I kinda of want to get the test over with, but I also want to score well ya know?

Very fustrating .

Maybe you were wound up too tight for UWSA? I've noticed that happens to me sometimes as well, when I expect big things but fail to get off to a good start.

You'll do just fine. Your NBME 4 score proves you know your stuff. Just try to stay calm and keep your wits about you. Don't do any more self assessments. Just the Free 150.

All the best! Look forward to seeing a 250 from you on the Sept 25 results thread!

In the end of the day , you have to decide.

Honest oppinion . if you want 240+ or 250+ and you score 226 in UWSA , i personally would be worried and wouldve postponed it.

Just my 2 cents

While both Sadde and GamX's comments are plausible (and they have taken the exam recently unlike me), I personally think Junkmailbox's UWSA is an outlier. It doesn't correlate with any other self assessment he has taken or his UW scores.

Tricky situation though, no doubt.

Even another reason for postponing = not being persistent when doing self assessments.

If you're not trying for a match this year, you might as well take some more time and give the exam when you're fully confident.

I'm really confused what I should. In my region there aren't any open test dates next few weeks.

I'm in Asia and I'm suppose to fly to the US for CS. This is really made me angry what i scored on UWSA. If i had hit 240+ I wouldn't have been so worried, but literally under 230 from where I was scoring I'm really torn now.

So I did the Free 150, maybe this might help you guys give me some more evidence.

41/44
32/41
32/41
5/5

110/131 = 83%

First block of course was a breeze, 2nd a bit tougher for me, was surprised at my score on last since 3rd I thought was easy.

I feel like I should be at least able to hit a 240, but I'm not sure I can hit 250. Am I safe to assume at 230 + min.

I scored 235 on UWorld assessment 1 week before the exam and an 84% on the free 150 the day before my exam and I scored a 233 on the real exam. I made at least 10 silly errors on the real exam, so if you feel you can be focused for 9 hours then go for it, for me the length of the exam was difficult.

For me length isn't a problem. In asia, we typically take exam "weeks" so I've never had a problem with fatigue.

I just reviewed my UWSA and I made just insanely stupid mistakes that I had to attribute to classic over thinking. I'm a classic over thinker, and I have to train myself to ignore this.

UWSA is highly predictive compared to NBME's.
