@rohit39

For psych you are sticking to step1 Kaplan(B.S)L.N...is it sufficient or MTB2/3 should be added?? and regarding OB-GYN...can we solely rely on Kaplan L.N or do we have to add MTB3 to it as well??

Thanks in anticipation and all the best

I used MTB 2+3 as my main reference for psychiatry, with annotations from kaplan step 1 and step 2 psych. BS i did completely from step 1 kaplan.

For OBG, i used KLN as my primary source, annotating it from MTB 2+3 (MTB 3 is pretty much a summarised version of KLN, so very few differences)

Default DIT or Read MTB

SO have my exam in about two weeks. Ahh

Trying to do DIT, but i feel like its slowing me down since i keep pausing the video and end up taking long breaks! However, I just want to ask if anyone has completed DIT and has any opinions on it??
And whether its more beneficial to read MTB in last two weeks alone or try to do it along with DIT.

Any input would be appreciated!!

Well, I didn't try to do a complete exam drill. After my first pass through UW I did a "second run" focusing in taking notes, then during the "third run" ,or 2.5 run if you may, I just wanted to do 2 or 3 blocks a day just to keep shape.
I was afraid of burning out before the exam if I attempted to do 6-9 blocks a day

Default Mini Step 2 CK experience

I did it! I will post an experience thread when the results arrive.

Main materials used: MTB 2 & 3 & UWorld 2.5 times
Do they cover it all? No.
What's the best resource for the exam? UWorld.
What would I do different if I could go back in time? Kaplan qbank before UWorld. The more practice questions the merrier.
I didn't do NBME, but I wish I did UWSA.
If you can get the Kaplan videos, go through your weak topics at the very least.

The day of the exam: This time I did not forget the scheduling permit at home so I started at 8 am. But mistakenly took decaffeinated coffee, so I had to use all my break time in getting real coffee first, then visiting the restroom once after every block. My kidneys were overfiltrating that day.

My blocks were 44, 43 and 42 only, it's fuzzy now but it felt like I had an extra block.
Only 3 or 5 abstract / ads questions.
Struggled with time on all but one block.
I don't remember having any step 1-like question.
Remember step 1 and its 10% WTF questions? I don't feel I had any of those during step 2ck. Don't get me wrong, about half of questions were very hard, but at least I knew what they were asking, unlike step 1. Don't know if that's good or bad.

My advise to you: There is no time to think, just time to pick an answer and move on. All your preparation for years before the exam come to this. I felt they were testing my instincts more than my knowledge. Most questions depict honest clinical situations with no catch, relevant and irrelevant information is presented alike and side by side. Many cases are vague just like in real life. Most questions asked for what to do next. A few were sweet to just ask the more likely diagnosis, they were the easy ones.
At some point about the 3rd block I started to feel defeated and bad with myself, the next questions felt ultra hard. That made me realize I worked so hard to be here today and I had no reason to feel down like that. After pepping up myself the questions felt normal-hard again.
After the exam I was exhausted in mind and body, totally drained of my psychic, metabolic and hormonal reserves. I was there just lying in my bed barely moving. But deep down in my heart, very very deep, I felt happy for all I did.
What will my score be? I don't have the faintest idea.

So, prepare beforehand your REAL coffee, your scheduling permit, accept any eventuality and cheer yourself up throughout the exam. Believing in yourself is as crucial as all those hours in UWorld.
Only after doing the exam you can punish yourself however you like

I remember psychiatry rounds, seeing how the nurses wrote down pages-long notes on how, what and why the patients did each day. I was amazed on how they remember the day with such level of detail.

Psychiatry questions in the real exam are like in UWorld.
A looooong vignette of social and personal every day anecdotes for you to emit a diagnosis.
Then answer what is the diagnosis, treatment, patient concerns about this and that , etc.
About KLN, maybe is because I like psychiatry but I fail to see why one book is better than the other.

I found that many psychiatry questions focus on the chronology of symptoms.
Example:
Three patients with same symptoms.
More than 6 months? Schizophrenia.
Less than one month? Brief psychotic disorder.
In between? Schizophreniform disorder.
As I rule of thumb I highlight the time of onset as I read through the stem

Also, in the real exam there won't be time to read these particularly long vignettes, so practice to get them first read. Substance abuse questions don't quite follow this pattern but they might as well give you a long stem just to make you consider the other choices.
Hope it helps.

I'm sure you did great! I have mine on 24th. Hope things go well. I need to catch a really nice nights rest, and Red Bull up for the day! I hope it gives me wings, figuratively :-D

Hello ,
I was doing Obg and was wondering about the treatment of DUB.. UW says for adolescent females it's estrogen therapy for active irregular bleeding and progestin if not .. What about for older women .. Is it OCP or MPA? And for acute hemorrhage do you d and c first and then replete blood if anemia present or other way around ? At what point do you do ablation then? If D and C doesn't work ? Thanks

Default NBME or UW again?

Hi! Im new here thanks for this thread Im IMG, just recently graduate, Im reparing for the step 2 ck, I have study from KN, MTB 2 and 3 twice Im in my second round, I have been through the UW I already finish it, but I wasn´t happy with my results I get around 55-70%, I think I did a huge mistake at the begining because I was doing the blocks by divisions (because after I finished the topic I review it in my books), a friend recommend me to take the NBME ASAP!, (but Im really worried about because I know that I will freak out because I plan to take my test in October 28th) So I dont know If I should renew my UW and do a second round, read awain MTB, or go straigth to NBME and see were I am?
Any advice?

Well, my result arrived.
227.
Happy I actually passed
Sad I didn't get a stellar score. We all could use a little reassurance

I wish I could advice you about Step 2CK, but maybe you should listen to someone who did great.

I got the same score for step 1 too. I'm aiming for a 240 tho tho this time but I am doing Kaplan Lecture videos and MTB 2 and 3 and UW. Do you think it's enough for that score? I didn't like Kaplan qbank too much to be honest I tried it for surgery and it was crap.

I say MTB 2&3 and UWorld are enough.
That said, if you struggle with UW, kaplan videos should help you greatly, specially for IM and maybe GynObs.
The exam is very hard, I didn't do Kaplan Qbank but I wish I did. The more Qs the better.
Feeling unsure, ignorant and devastated is normal, just don't give up

Sounds good. How much time did you take to prepare?
