Default Increased A-a gradient groups

What's the difference between V/Q mismatch and Diffusion defect? This goes for both labs (pao2, paco2, A-a gradient) and causes/etiology.

No matter what the question is I always get it wrong because I can't see the difference!

both V/Q AND Shunting cause hypoxemia with normal Pa CO2

V/Q = incresd A-a grd which corrects with o2
like in Pulmonary embolism bcoz lung is being ventilated but d/t embolus ,
perfusion decreased

Shunting = inc A-a does not correct with 100% o2
eg. pulmonary edema , ARDS, vascular shunt
