Default uwsa vs. nbme and bad exam experience.

Hi everyone,

I just took my test two days ago and still was in depressed mood. I screwed up all the drug adds and abstract questions (2 drug ads and 2 abstracts, totally 9-10 questions). My brain just stop working with all this kind of questions, read the questions again again and again, wasted a lot of time, and finally still had no clue how to find out the answers. Because of the time wasting, it even affected some other questions in two blocks, for about 4-5 questions (can't remember precisely), I can only take randomly guess. So desperate right now. My uwsa is 600/240 (3 days before exam), and NBME form 4 500/237 (2 days before exam). Can somebody post your uwsa, nbme, and your final exam scores here. Therefore I can just get some clues from it? Thanks a lot.

By the way, just like most people said, the exam is very tough. My questions is from 41-44 for each block. No 45, no less than 40.

First of all, you should be aware of the drug adds and abstract. Leave them to the end of the block. Second, time management. If some questions that you are not sure, just make your choice quickly, don't mark it. Because you do not have time to review it at all. I really have no idea how the way they twist the questions. Some of them are pretty straight forward. Just like a HHV 6 infection picture, you do not even have to read the question stem and you can make your choice immediately.

I don't know your way for preparing the exam. If you have done enough Qbank, then go through MTB3 quickly. That book won't give you some direct answers, but it is very important for basic concept.

Do not let any questions stuck you there, even though the first half of the questions that you are not sure. Just click quickly, forget it and move to next questions.

Good luck!

Don't worry , stay relax and do what u have to do next. I took my exam 3 wks ago and I even thought I cannot become a doctor in USA after my exam, lol. My UWSA score is 245 and my real exam score was 234. So, its +/- 10 points. Therefore, the worst score you will ever get will be between 220 and 230. That score can be apply for residency . So, just relax, dude!

Man, its over. Its now in the hands of USMLE people. Nothing now will change your score, so relax and enjoy your free time.

I took my CS and was sure That I did not pass that darn thing, plus I had to wait for 3 months for my score (passed with flying colors)

My UWSA score looks like yours and Im going to take NBME soon.
On the internet there are lots of people score posts and most of them fall between NBME 4 and UWSA, but in your case, both of these tests are very close.
I think even if you did worse on a real deal, you might score by 10 points less, but that stull gives you 230...

The best score correlation is your NBMEs+UWSA average plus/minus 10 points. that technique worked for me with a confidence interval of 99.5%! The more practice tests you take the better correlation you will have.. One or 2 tests can work but the final result depends.

For example in my case I did NBME 1,2,4 and UWSA my average given there was 253 with plus or minus 10 points.. I fell well within that range.. So I would advise you do that as well!

ofcourse
that is not true in all cases
there may be a 20 point difference
beware...nbme and uwsa arent
so predictive in CK.
In my case 20 point difference

It is not true if you only do 1 or 2 self -assessment tests, but if you do 3 or more and your result is similar in the 3 of them, if you take an average it will be closer to your actual performance, people that have discrepancies between their self-assessments and real score is because they only gave one or 2 tests.. This is like statistics, the more power you have the better. I have yet to see a person here or in other forums that has taken all the NBME's + UWSA with similar scores and out of nowhere just choke (it can happen but is extremely rare)

Of course if you get 260 on UWSA and 210-220 on the NBME's then you have a problem, but if you get lets say 240 on uwsa and 244 on NBME 1 and 247 on NBME 4 then that means consistency.

People believe that because they score 250 on just one test then they are set and that is wrong.

You did not give your step 2 ck exam yet? Be aware of statistics and ethics. I just read an article online, those "tiny parts" of usmle may give you +/-10 points on your final score. Good luck!

Guys I have been following another usmle ck forum for some time now. There are mostly amgs there. What I found different there was the fact that most people posting there were scoring very high and consistently Above their uwsa and nbmes. But, they add another tool to predict, that is their first round of uworld aggregate. Their score correlates more with that than the practice tests. For people getting above 80, usually crossed 260, for 75 usually beyond 250 and for above 82 to 83 above 270. The forum is by the name of student doctor network. Mostly amgs there who study for a month max and regularly get above 260, the highest score there I saw was 285!

I also feel that Amgs have a fair advantage on ck, since their clerkships prepare them very well for the exam, not that I'm complaining but something for us Imgs to factor in when we are preparing for ck. I see many of us not giving this exam much importance as for step 1, we should take more time on ck to be competitive overall.
