Experiences glutamate CK exam experience

Preparation time: 3 mo.
Materials: Kaplan, MTB 2&3, UW, wikipedia, google images.
I started my preparation with UW and studied kaplan LN and MTB alongside. I took some time watching OBGYN videos and IM fischer videos, definitely worth the time. UW is the key to understanding how this exam is structured. Learn all the differential diagnosis and how they are presented in a question.

NBME 4: 240, 3 weeks before the exam.
UWSA: 256, 1 week before the exam.

Exam day: This exam is tough, its not easy. At the same time i want to spend some time in telling everyone out there trying to frighten people saying this exam is out of this world, "please BACK OFF". Its not impossible, its totally doable. Its just that Clinical Knowledge has no limits, you can be asked anything in the world.

Saying that, I would like to tell more about my exam day experience, its a really long exam, get some good nights' sleep. I took lot of food and caffeine to keep me active. I took a break after every block.

Each block had number of questions ranging from 41 to 44. The abstracts and drug ads were similar to the ones in UW and FRED. Each block had 3 types of questions, one is you can look at the question and get the answer right away. The other type is the hard ones, you read the quesion and feel like " what the hell are they asking about". Then the third type are the ones you really need to concentrate on and get them at the end. I believe these questions will make a difference on your score. Cant tell more as i just gave the exam.

I have been following the forums since my step 1 and i have seen a lot of people talk about step 2 ck is harder than ever and stuff, I have a question for you guys " How are you able to compare the current level of difficulty if you can take the test only once if you have passed it?"

Finally, to be frank, I dont feel good at all about this test and im waiting eagerly for the results, which will be delayed, unfortunately. This exam is tough but not impossible. All the best to everyone, YOU will do well.

hi...how long did it take you to finish kaplan lecture notes and mtb on the first read? Iam at present on my 1st read and the videos are taking a lot of time. Did you go through all the videos of kaplan?
when did you start doing u world questions?
just starting my prep for step2...so a bit confused as how to finish the whole prep in just 3 months like you.
All the best for your result!

Help med ziva

Hi, i started my preparation with UW, it was a bit tough initially, but i could cope up, i was doing everything at the same time. Like do a block of UW today, read MTB alongside UW revision. Try to schedule reading KLN in between. UW was going a bit slowly initially, but once u cross 50% then you enter cruise speed. Having a motivated SP is very important. I was lucky to have 2. All the best. Kill CK!

Thumbs Up Pearl

I was doing UW timed random mode, i was all over the place with my prep, i wanted to give the exam in 2 months time, so started my prep with UW, read MTB 2 and 3 thoroughly, kept going back to kaplan in my weak areas, good thing with UW is it tells you exactly what you have to study, assess your tests individually every week and make a study schedule. Took time intially to imbibie UW concepts. UW will go slowly until u cross the 50%mark, then the same concepts keep repeating, keep reading MTB everyday. then at the end of UW take NBME(preferably 4). take 3 weeks time to improve on your weak areas, then give UWSA. if you are satisfied with the score then take the exam in a week. All the best.

wow awesome score! many congrats =)

i was wondering how would an SP help in exam preparation? like do you do questions together or read together? or how is it done? ^^"

could you tell us ur time schedule? like how long u spent on first read? did you do all of KLN on all topics? when u do videos do u skip the KLN?

sorry for asking many questions but i'm feeling that my first read is taking a bit longer than i've hoped it would. like IM is taking a month and i haven't finished the small topics (derm, ophtha etc..about those, what did u use for these topics?)

I'd appreciate you answering those questions

and best of luck on the reminder of your residency journey

Hi, I got 236 on step 1. step 1 is the base you build upon. Clinical knowledge is vast, anything from rotations in med schoool to real life experiences definitely help! Good Luck!

1. I had 3 different SPs and it helped me save time, i had one sp each for KLN, MTB 2 & MTB 3, I did UW and OBGYN videos on my own during the rest of the time. It was very effective having an sp.
2. There is no strict schedule, study when your brain is receptive. Have a good study environment, eat well, sleep well( REM sleep is needed to consolidate memories).
3. I used KLN, videos to learn what i didnt know, its not like i used this book for a particular topic and i saw this video for this topic, its not set. Do UW and you will know what you do NOT know. Take it from there, start reading those topics.

Congrats on the awesome score !

What was your UW Qbank score % ?

Since you started off with UW first , would you mind sharing how much you scored initially ( first few blocks ) . It will help others get an idea of what to expect if they take this approach.

Thanks for posting your experience . It is a different strategy and is helping me and many others.
