Day 1

Got 66% on my UW block. Reviewed the explanations

Going through rheumatology in MTB. I was supposed to finish it today but I guess I won't be able to. 15 pages left for tomorrow. Hope I can squeeze them in

My story is every similar to that of Renaissance. Similar scores and got a horrible score on nbme 4 so had to postpone the test to sep 6th . Was too down to study anything substantial. Now back onto it. Good luck guys. 240s is all you should see.

Can anyone tell me if doing kaplan qbank is a good idea . Unlike others I can afford the whole day for ck prep and I can finish Kaplan a bank in 10 days. Cause I feel it will help me revise stuff as well as let me improve my timing and getting used to exam pattern . All inputs are valuable.

Biostats is exactly like step1's .. and i found it very easy on Uworld..except for Drug adds which u won't find anywhere else but uworld .

So I'd suggest read step1 First Aid ..those few pages of biostats and you are good to go for all the questions but drug add..which u can only learn from Uworld.

Depends on where you are in your prep. I would say if you're in the later stages of your prep then Kaplan Qbank wouldn't be that useful. That's just my opinion though

Work up at 6am. Pulled up my iPad and did a block before getting out of bed. Got 66%. Again!

Anyway, off to work. I'll try to review the block during the day.

Reading plans for today:
Finish off rheumatology and do half of nephro.

e

Thank you for the input. I finished one round of Uworld, MTB2 for IM, MTB 3 for others, Kaplan LNs at the start of my prep. And my problem is most of the questions i got wrong on NBME 4 were pretty easy, i just tend to think too laterally when approaching a question i guess and also time is an issue i finished with hardly 3 min to spare in each block. I will have to go through Uworld wrong answers again and mtbs one more time. But do you think adding kaplan qbank to this will help me?

Today's fun fact.

The name Behcet is orginally an Arabic name, and is used throughout the Muslim world (including, ofocurse, turkey)

Middle easterner + oral and genital ulcers ---> behcet syndrome

Day 3

Barely finished 20% of nephrology yesterday before collapsing into a beautiful sleep coma.

Today's a weekend so I'm hoping I can catch up with my plan.

Objectives for today:
UW 1 block
Complete nephrology (have 80% left)

Start your engines

The plan is I do a block first thing in the morning and try to read the explanations throughout the day while at work. After finishing the block I read whatever I have scheduled for that day in MTB (on average 30 pages per day)

Of course, easier said than done

Congrats with becoming master
Have you gone thru kaplan notes?
Can y please tell me tht i can skip them :sorry:

I stick to same plan doing a block in the morning. then go thru explanations during work and then planned reading home. For now ive done derma rheuma hema gi from Mtb and kaplan q bank 60-70-75-59%. Still feeling fresh from step one. I have two jobs sick and tired from movin around with books. Wanna find easier way not roam around to much stuff like i did for step 1.
Maybe mtb kaplan bank and uw is enough dont want to take off from work like until last one month before exam

Diagnosis or treatment?

I did one block just right after I finished infectious...got low 80s but probably cause most of the questions I got in that block was asking about diagnosis..

drug regimens can be a bit tricky...

It just hit me. I expect to jump form a 202 on an NBME to a target score of 230+ in just 20 days?!
Ugh...this is so depressing. A 30-point jump in 20 days. I don't know what I was thinking.
Lets hope for the best.

Day 12

Finish off Ob
Do some peds

It's been almost a week since I last did UW. I have 7 blocks left!

It's been a while since I did a block of UW so I figured I'd give it a try today just to see how i would do. I scored 57%.
I really don't know why my prep is turning out to be so lousy. I have no idea what to do further. My exam's in almost 2 weeks and I don't feel like I'm improving at all.

I really don't feel I can answer. My last self assesment was 202 and I'm just got 57% in a UW block with 2 weeks left for my exam!

End of day 13

Started the day off with an 82% score on a UW block. It pumped me up for the rest of the day. Have 5 more blocks to go and I'll be done with it. If I get time I'm going to do as many incorrect questions as I can after I'm done with the first time.

Finished off Ob.
Started peds. Hoping to finish some of it today so I can be able to finish it off completely tomorrow.

I've been facing the same issue with UW too, very fluctuating scores, highest of 89 to lowest 64. Its quite unnerving! What's your current UW average?

66% as of today. I think it's going to stick there since 5 blocks really won't change much. Might go up to 67% though

I remember a question somewhere where CD4= 400 was listed and it wasn't low enough. I believe 350 or less is the criteria.
HBV vaccine is given to HIV patients who are unimmunized to HBV and have a CD4 count over 200

I looked into this a couple of weeks ago and I settled on 350.
I remember i was pretty certain about the number. UW and some other source convinced me further that 350 was correct

I saw a friend of mine today. He was pretty real with me and laid it on me straight, I AM NOT READY AND I NEED MUCH MORE TIME. Pretty intense considering my exam is in 2 weeks. He's probably right though.

Anyway, day 14

Just got home from work. It's 6 pm. Did a block of UW and got 73%. Don't have time to review it though. I now have two unreviewed blocks on my list of to-do's.

Peds, 45 pages. Probably have another 6 hours before I pass out. I have to finish peds today!

Day 15

It's 9 pm and I'm about to start. This sucks. Work's getting more demanding and people are mumbling that I'm slacking off. So I had to start working seriously again. I feel I'm going to break!

I was reminded yet again today from a friend in the library that its "extremely difficult" to jump from a 202 to a good score in just 3 weeks.

God almighty give me strength and help me finish step 2!

NBME in 6 days. Not expecting much. But in case I score good enough I'm going for the real thing.

Endocrinology. Start your engines...

Good luck! Just hang in there.
I know it's so tough to work and then try studying after.
Just give it the best you got and think it will all be over with soon!

Day 19

It's Monday, the last day of my long weekend. Back to work tomorrow.

Today's schedule:
Finish off what's left of hematology
Do neurology

Have two days left to finish the schedule and do an NBME. After the NBME I have 5 days left for the exam. Either i postpone or confirm, based on how I do on the NBME.

Lets see if this 20-day cram of MTB&UW worked.

Thanks for the support guys. It really means a lot during my time of need.

If the NBME is reassuring and I go ahead with the exam as scheduled on September 10, then applying to the match is certainly an option.

I doubt the NBME will show a good score though. I mean, how much can one jump up from 200 in 20 days?! Nevertheless, I may be able to get away with one last desperate final push, so I hope it works.

LOL I had Tostinos Pizza. I made it in the oven. Finished surgery and started pediatrics. Tomorrow Is all about finishing peds from MTB 3 and chechking Peds MTB 2 like the congenital heart diseases which In my opinion are better explain in MTB 2. And have to do UW notes peds which I have like 100 pages of notes. I guess it will be tomorrow and the day after just for peds. Let's hope for strength. 2 weeks to go. Have to take NBME 6 at end of this week and UWSA at beginning of next week.

By the way, that's an interesting choice for an NBME. I was thinking of doing 6 instead of 2 as well (I already did 4).

My boss came back from his vacation today. So I passed by his office to say hi. The first thing he says? "You still didn't do your exam?!". After which, he silently judged me by giving me a weird look. FML

Day 20

Have to study Pulmonary. I doubt I'll be able to finish it today though.

I still have cardiology left as well.

Seems my 20 day schedule just became 22 days.

Scored 204 on nbme 4 on 14th august. Was depressed but i was not done with uworld and i took the exam in the middle of the night. So had to push myself to study hard and work on my week areas. I realized, it is very important to be in good state of mind and analyse how to solve a question. Took NBME 6 on 29th August and scored 223. Not satisfied but at least its not a 204. exam is on the 13th. Will take my UWSA by 8th and if i score satisfactorily i am going for the big thing. Any opinions are welcome.
Regarding NBME 6 i felt the test was okay but questions stems were small and no Drug Ad questions. Anybody knows how NBME scores correlates with the real deal ?

20 points in 2 weeks? good job man! Looks like you're right on track.
I would love to get a "safe" score on my next NBME.

Day 22

My final day

Nothing but cardio left. Have to study whats left of it

Maybe if I have time, quickly review some topics I have listed

Tomorrow is my NBME! If its not a "safe" score, then I'm going to cancel the exam and take my time with my prep. Redo UW or maybe even rebuild my foundations.

Off to work for now

I have been following your thread for a few days now. Just wanted to wish you all the best for the exam. I could never study while working but you are doing it so persistently and making progress as well. Hope everything works out for you. Good luck on the exam, you're working really hard, don't give up...it will definitely pay off.

NBME 6 ---> 227! That's a 25 point increase in 22 days!

Conclusion of this thread:
F*ck all those that tell you it can't be done.

WOW Awesome!!!! That's great!! You must be so relieved. Hard work pays off!! Hat's off to you to accomplish this while working.

So i guess reading MTB properly and a block of uworld did the trick huh? My exam was less than 3 weeks, and im planning on postponing just a few more days so i can finish DIT and a 2nd round of uworld. Hope that helps me.. ahh

Anyway, GOOD LUCK for the test!!!!

I took my exam a week ago. Haven't been able to come back and write an experience thread though. Have been busy with preparing my application and trying to win back my team's trust at work after slacking off for two months concentrating on CK.

As a summary:
------------------
1- Step 1 will help you tremendously with the prep.

2- Build solid foundations and don't cut corners in the begining.
I.e., if you have a solid step 1 score and/or a good clinical base from med school, you can go ahead with UW + some comprehensive book (MTB, FA, Stepup2step2, etc). If not, then indulge in Kaplans. Videos or books, but not necessarily both.

3- The exam was hard. And a bit weird with some funny questions. I'm sorry, but that's what I felt. Am I a non-supportive ass for saying that? Probably. But I prefer being straightforward. Also, take this with a grain of salt since I wasn't as well prepared as one should be for a high score.

4- Questions, questions, questions. When you're done, then do more questions.

5- Sleep well, eat well, take plenty of breaks with snacks. It's a 9 hour exam and it feels more like a marathon. Prepare yourself physically.

--------------------------------

Will update this thread with my score when it comes out.

Good luck everyone
