Lungs ARDS Managment; PEEP and FiO2!

I've never understood this concept, anyone care to explain it
its mechanical ventilation as treatment for ARDS.
What exactly are our goals here and what are we doing?
All those questions that are like increase this decrease that etc etc I never have any clue whats going on

help!?

In ARDS PEEP is required to prevent alveolar collapse during expiration
If u see there's fall in pO2 despite supplementing patient with oxygen then increase PEEP
FiO2 must be maintained below 50% (fraction of oxygen in inspired air) to prevent O2 toxicity and further alveolar damage
According to ABGs u define what needs to be adjusted
Higher than expected pO2-lower FiO2 etc
