well the best way..have a kid...watch him/her grow up...
no seriously if u have a kid in ur family...correlate the milestones with him/her..
helped me a lot in med school...

1 to walk and 2 to talk goes the saying
social smile 2 mth
neck holding 3 mth
sit unsupported 6 mth

1yr kiddo walks and waves bye " mama papa" (2 - 3 words)

2 yr = 200 words, 6 cubes...i find this cube thing very irritating

3yr see the kid plays around - rides tricycle, kicks ball, group play
makes a circle . the cube thing is 9..i guess its 3 * age in yrs
and 3 word sentences


4 yr X XX such a difficult shape , takes 4 yrs to scribble that x
