Experiences Diddy kong's exam experience

Hi guys, just wanted to share my exam prep and experience.

Background:
I had a 260 on step 1, was very satisfied with my score, prepared for 9 months after my graduation.

Ck Prep:
1) I took 3 months and ten days.
2) Materials included KLN, Kaplan q bank online, Uworld online, NBME self assessments and NBME clinical mastery series forms.
3) Did Kaplan q bank after first read of KLN. (68 percent random and timed). Then after my second read I did Uworld. I used to do 8 random timed blocks of Uworld a day just like the exam, simulating it as closely as I could including the break time. Then I would check and read the explanations of the 8 blocks before going for the next 8 block simulation. I felt this was tough, but this worked for me in step 1 so repeated it. I got 80 percent in the end. Then had a quick 3rd read of KLN, followed it up with self assessments, the results of which are as follows:
i) UWSA 9th aug: 257
ii) NBME 2 and 3 together on 13th aug: 256 and 248
iii) NBME 4 and 6 together on 16th aug: 263 and 259
iv) NBME clinical mastery forms were good and I did them in between self assessments: PEDS (80), OBGY (82), Psych (82), Surg (85), Neurology (77) and Internal Med (96).
v) Fred 132: 84

Ck exam day:
Well I went into the exam feeling good. I heard a lot from people to manage my time well, which I felt I did. I had ten minutes on average at the end of a block to revise the marked q's. But now the issues, I marked 30 % of q's, I just was not confident about so many q's. The practice tests mostly had clear cut options, not the case in the exam, many q's had more than one answerable options. The drug adds and abstracts were tougher than what I had practiced. Overall I felt uneasy coming out of the center, but from what I have heard is this a norm.

This exam is a good one for us, its tough for sure but at the end I think it helped me develop a way of thinking, the way a physician should think. Most of the test material was vague and not clear, which is the case in real life practice. Im hoping for a good score, did all I can. Hope this helps future test takers. Good luck all and keep improving yourself, dont take it only as an exam, take it as a way to become a better physician. Gosh that was long thanks..

Thanks for posting your experience. I am starting my preparation for Step 2 CK and this is very helpful.
I have a few questions :
1) Were you doing ant questions along with your 3rd read of KLN ? If so, how many blocks / day ?
2) Any reason you opted to not read MTB ?
3) What did you use to revise in the last few days ?

Thanks !

Hey pearl,
1) i was done with uworld by the time I started my third read.
2) I did not do MTB because I wanted to stick to just one set of books which was Kaplan.
3) I used to review material underlined in the Kaplan books and review my wrong and marked questions in uworld.

Just received my score. Got exactly the same as UWSA and one point more than the average of all practice tests. Very relieved and happy.
It was a similar story in my step 1, in which a got one point more than the average of all my practice tests.
I think what helped me most was simulating the exam conditions by doing 8 blocks with my U world subscription.
Wow its over :-) .

I used to do 8 blocks, then do the explanations of six of those the following day. Then I would do another round of 8 blocks, and follow it up with the 2 blocks of explanations left over from the previous 8 blocks, plus four from the recent set of 8 block explanations. In this way I completed the entire q bank in 16 days. I know this is tough, but I wanted it to make it tough for my self so that exam would feel like routine. Worked really well for both steps. My practice test scores correlated well with my actual score. I have seen many people on this forum getting much lower scores than their practice tests, may be that's because they do only four blocks in practice tests, it's an 8 block exam, that's what we must train for.

I agree. After my first read of subjects and Kaplan Q bank i will try to do as much U world blocks as possible. I am already used to the idea that my CK hours will be the shortest "1 hour"s of my life.
