I started double attack cardiology from mtb2 surgery from mtb3 one block of explanations. 11 blocks left will do only 5 in this week. Still not in from morning till night shape. Slept untill 1pm today. That schedule starting from saturday nov23. One week of superattack.
Good luck guys make and follow the plans. Main thing is how we prepare and accumulate knowledge and then give shot on those 9hours

Tamta, I am also not in morning till night shape. My routine is unpredictable! I am left with 27 blocks and I am planning to finish them in 4 days... not consecutive obv. so I'll simulate like 3 real exams. I've a plan but not following it and this has resulted in a lot of frustration irritation and short temper

Do i need to go thru MTB 3 for surgery? I did peds from there. and margin points of OBGYN.

Jusy diddsurgery from mtb3 it took like two hours maybe, second time i did it. Fefinetely all other subject must read from mtb3. I still have surgery vignettes, my surgery score is still lowest 60%.
If you are simulating exam be ause of subscription, i suggest you to do uworld slowly and review at leats marked and incorrects. I bought another subscription altgug was left with 15 blocks only and could do it in two- 3 days. Will keep unused only last 5-6 random blocks. So made a plane of mtb revision

Mtb's revision plan in a week:
Day1: infectious+immuno+cardio
Day2: Endo+Rheuma+pulmo
Day3: Hema+GI+Neuro
Day4: Renal+ Onco+preventive+surgery
Day5: Peds+Ob+gyn+eye
Day6: Psych+ER+ MTB3 whats left from other subjects (which will be done every evening from the first 1 day along with mtb2 internal revision)+ Psych from step1 first aid.
Day7: Biostats from step1 first aid and practise biostats questions and do whatever i want until midnight, then good night sleep
NBME next morning

I will not simulate exam on first nbme probably. Will do it in the end of prepr woth second nbme after reviewing uworld, after which i will choose my test date hopefully if my scores will be nice

Good night.

I barely managed 2 blocks a day just on some occasions+ none of reading. So that's a great speed. Just try to study as many hours as you can because losing hours means you will need to study more days and then wait for results more days and be out of normal life for more days. So is not it better to study more hours but lesser days and be finished sooner?
Also i consider that doing faster and quicker is more efficient..for me at least.. It's not that i am hurrying because i can't wait.. Good luck guys you are really supportive lets stay together and use this cold winter for studying what better could we do at this time of the year..

Same here Terrible study day today but it was not accounted in above mentioned 7 day plan so will not suffer myself. Finished the outdoor things to manage for my exams, went out in the morning and never came back home. Made 500 tests for my home country licensing exam. 1000 left. Will take just couple of hours so can be successfully incorporated in this week plan.
Okay on y vas guys big day tomorrow and biggest week.. Will update every evening

Moral from my previous 3 weeks: when y sit down once for study and get on high speed rails, don't dare to get out until your exam day.

Today doing Surgery from USMLE WORLD. Now , I understand why it was bad idea doing questions first at the beginning of the prep. USMLE world may construct good questions on the high yield topics but it always gives u patchy information. you always need to go for good comprenhensive review so that you can visualize the whole story. Not, Reading Kaplan was the biggest mistake I made.

Come ooonn everybody does that..

Soooo tried my best wanted to make a cool post but..
All i could do was 55 pages of MTB2 today period. Nothing more. And only thing i can blame was my very late awakening at 12:38.. And i've been sitting whole day i swear..
So this is like doing annotated first aid for step1 for the first time..
But.. I love MTB, thank you conrad thanks for making our life easier, everything is here.. I am cleaning up stickers rewritting them in book.. And throwing quite a lot of them because it already is there in mtb i just have not remembered it from my first read and made a sticker when i met something that i thought was note there in kaplan note or uworld. U world notes are of course precious. So mostly been busy with endocrinology left over from cardio and did around 1/3 of pulmo.
Have met mistakes that i have made in UW. So it is all about doing things again and again revising and remembering. Doing mtb for the first time was different, then doing kaplan notes after mtb was different, than doing uworld was different, now doing mtb religiously for the first time after uworld and kaplan notes is different.. So thats the point of making all those things..
Am tempted to do one block in these two hours before sleep but resisting temptation today. Wanna finish uworld at least on 75%, so better do the reading and revision more in this week. Have started pediatrics in MTB3 so will go on with it. Sleep early, and start from early on tomorrow.
Will post my progress every evening until NBME on december 1. I am not behind my schedule so will keep improving and doing more during the day
Good luck people

Good morning guys, its the same time that i woke up yesterday 12:36, today have done already 35 pages. Will do a block of uworld now.
Polok i have done kaplans for peds and ob/gyn quite well, although there was additional info i found most important and high yield material to be copy pasted in mtb3+mtb2. Have read internal also and didn't find anything enormously new. Only reason to this could be that i did notes quite quickly. It was in the beginning of preparation before uworld, after one even quicker read of mtb and kaplan q bank. And also some stuff from notes were covered in kaplan bank explanations.
Hope to have very fruitful day today

Hi guys
I hope you're studying hard and really wish every one of you the mark you wish for
I need your advice on sth .

I was supposed to have my step 2 CK on the 4th of December. I went over the kaplan books + MTB2 and MTB3 for peds, gyn and surgery then i revised them once, did uworld and have written the notes. Then i had uworld self assessment and nbme 6 , but unfortunately i got really low marks 198 and 160 respectively! i don't know what's wrong exactly. I postponed the exam to January hoping that i can manage to raise my scores! My uworld subscription is coming to an end and i'm trying to finish writing notes for all the questions before it's over .

I think my problem is in concentration in long style exams as my marks in u world are on avg 66%.

Any advice what to do in the time remaining?

Have you done step1? Don't take exam if you don't score enough to pass exam. I know you don't need this advice you know it by yourself. Review marked and incorrect focus on mtbs and try to do revision fast and write nbme then. You should train yourself, timed mode and endurance otherwise exam will bed devastating.
Thats what im trying now..
60pages only today and one block 66%, average still 72%. Reviewed half explanations of this block..
Reading mtb is so hard i mean not hard but can't do more than 60 pages so far.. Es
Especiall.y that did my favourite rheumatology thought would be able to do more..Passive reading is terribly boring and hard. I thought would do lot more today but exhausted already. Maybe i should eat more but don't want to get fat maybe i should exercise run or go out but i can't i am bound to my study table. And this winter suckss.. Sitting and the warmer really makes me sluggish and CO intoxicated.
Okay will go on and try some surgery from mtb2+ vignettes, still lowest scores in it. Still have 3-4 hours until midnight

What a happy evening.. I did surgery vignettes like them so much. Then i did my home licensing exam tests, i was expecting them to be around 1,500 and suddenly i finished them they appeard to be just 963 that. Was such a happiness thank you god. I met one strange think that hypertrophic pyloris stenosis and adrenogenital syndrome (i gues they meant CAH) need to be differentiated really don't have nerves to google why..

I imagined my exam day, had flashbacks from step one and imagined myself going in there again.. God i got so afraid.. This is like going into labor for second time, when you already know how it feels god please help me during those 9 hours

I am well on my schedule of day 2. Finished with rheumatology. Catching up on my defects in surgery, hope i improve tomorrow and be able to review GI, Hema, Neuro although it will be freaking hard.
I hope doing mtb next time which i will start as soon as i finish it will be easier.
Always hard to get back to shape when you achieved your best shape and then slowed down..So dont lose time guys. Hope we all will be in our best shape on exam day

Starting adult GIT. These hyperbilirubinemias don't make my life any easier.
They at least talk about breasts in pediatrics

1pm done with hematology it is funny how every time you read mtb you find sentences as if never read them before. All thee things are so forgettable, so need to be fresh for exam and need to do revisions fast.

To summarize:
Gilbert's benign one with stress infection and stuff unconjugated
Criglr najjar type 1 severe kernicterus absent enzyme unconjugated!!!!
Type 2 milder can respond to phenobarb.
Dubin johnson---> conjugated, black liver benign
Rotor' its milder form liver not black

With pediatric jaundices you help bro

Breast milk failure: when not nursing enough time on each breast need to reinforce breast feeding
Breast milk jaundice: just be ause of some protein in breast milk that mom may have eaten should not discontinue as i remember i.e. Should still continue breastfeeding, and it will resolve

7pm. Finished neurology and just found out that i meet all criteria of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, defined as: a fully mentally alert person loses nearly all motor control while no impact on cognitive function. Mentation, bowel, bladder and sexual function remain intact. Patient fully aware of being trapped in body that does not function
I want to end this sooon
Now i will give myself pleasure of some psychiatry, biostats..until midnight.. What a great life.. Could not dream about anything better..

Everybody's here guys.. Did only nephrology and one new block yesterday. Then again some things came up at hospital so lost whole evening.

So exhausted i have made very nice summary of preventive med but have no ability to type it so will do next time..
Did surgery, preventive, pediatrics, around 15 questions of explanations. Tomorrow is ob-gyn day from both mtbs, also pediatrics from mtb3. After tomorrow is last day of revision psych, ER+ biostats and step1 book psych. So this is now full blown
Have left congestive heart failure 10 pages from cardio. I really am sick of cardiology so much, but am doing allright in it generaly answering all ECG questions without having any idea about hahaha i hope i will laugh on saturday after nbme. Good luck guys. I am out of this world already.
@MedicalExaminer my dearest, precious friend, conqueror of Lions: i also miss my job, i miss being among so many idiots but is not is better on this forum among so many smart people, just to be considered equal to all these hard working guys.. Who have done a lot and achieved a lot.. And we are also doing a lot so keep on doing.. Just doinnngg all the best we can,. I really miss normal life. Do you remember when you played normally with your kids last time without thinking about chapters from kaplan you are one of most important persons who has followed me on this road, and generally this path has made us so close and our friendship so strong. hope we get what we deserve

As it was expected from my evidence based behavior: i can't even wait one more day so will write Nbme 4 tomorrow. I am finished revision of mtb2 only, have not done peds and gynecology from mtb3. Which i could do tomorrow as planned but can't wait. Have only left psychiatry and arrhythmias which i will do this evening+ step1 biostats. My mind is really bursting so i am taking an hour to rest. What a rush these 6 days.. Have made next plan for mtb revision precribed on 5 days
Lets see how i will perform tomorrow. If i get anything >230 i will give exam by christmas. What i will do in that 3 weeks period i will think tomorrow
Have a good day guys.. You are great support really

Default Nbme 4

I got 221 guys. And i didnot like questions at all and first block nearly killed me, but got organized and managed time well thereafter, although i still doubt reviewing marked questions gives anything or not and just tortures our mind. I will definitely have strategy to give best answer and never return except some questions which i might consider doable after a little more thinking.
Again basics are the problem, incontinence which i always had trouble understanding thoroughly and differentiating, again thinking a lot which way SVR, CO and PCWP change to diff causes of shock, again thinking a lot about diff of hyponatremias, blablabla blablabla same things suffering a lot on thyroids etc. again same topics tested in same blocks just like uworld does, i hope this is a good representation of real exam but with smaller questions.
This nbme was timely, i would be happy to score higher but this has calmed down my rush. i still have to finish uworld and do second round definitely together with better slower subject wise revision of stuff. I am a star of psychiatry and gynecology and i guess i will never review psych if i continue being happy with my good performance in it..because have not done any normal review yet.. Of course i will review it!!
Worst performance in cardio and preventive with left stars. Peds also bad.
Shittiest preventive questions i can say nothing in common with vaccinations some stupid stuff. I will make summary of preventives and post in the evening.
Okay what will i do now is start mtb3 pediatrics. Finish explanations of uw block that i have in process. And continue daily routine. Will take a walk in the evening, feeling a little sad. But i am very happy that i took Nbme it made me concentrate and focus my mind as we should be during all the times of studying.
Will write next Nbme in 3 weeks when my UW subscription finishes and then think about choosing exam date.
What do you guys think.. Encourage me

Yeah thats the feeling that i got that i am almost there. Not bad for just 6 day revision mtb. Should try our best and work hard everyday, keep our routine as needed. I m just sad because still need more days to spend sitting and studying like crazy but at least i am halfway there and at least more or less i have organized the stuff and put them together now will work on important areas. I was so angry on questions that didn't even wanna revise it but now will try to focus on incorrect ones and have some solution to my disturbed mind.

Okay guyyyysss next round started .. Keep motivated

Well,I was wondering how many right did u get overall to get that score?
Was it really tough or u made some silly errors.
Anyways since u ve got time,u can definitely improve your score esp. By improving your weak areas.

37 mistakes. i didn't make silly mistakes i just could not nail things. could not take the needed info and use it to make the answer. at least 10 questions were absolutely doable from me when i did revision. but you know how it is it is all about performance of that moment. maybe i could easily miss the other questions that i did not miss so it is balanced anyway. and i really deserved this score. and not more.. i am pretty happy cause at least i know that i have managed to organize quite quickly all the subjects. and to tell you the truth the things that i hate and usually make me suffer were not tested today and still i would say its all about basics all about basics. you must be 100 percent sure in your basics and i think it is better to be very comfortable with all mtb info and everything will be fine.

this is not just about january this is about us motivated hard working dudes. you gonna be fine just do revisions.. there is no other advice.. prepare yourself for exam, build up stamina day by day. if this was your first NBME believe me that was a real gunshot for me i got whole new emotional aggravation for exam, i felt the pressure so lets just do it just dont start thinking a lot you will score better on next one just dont lose time and use day by day more and more and build everything on one another every lost day takes some bricks you have built before so.. just move on from tomorrw. have spent whole day today online with my family and others talking blalabla but i need to rest .. also just tried to play with kids
okay back in shape from tomorrow.. join us and update your daily routine thats how we keep each other here

i have only done derma once from both they are both same sh!t not to lie to you have not revised it either there is one thread in step 2 ck high yield maybe you just give a look at it. and generally my step1 knowledge is what helps me in derma.
so we are in samest boat. i have only 9 blocks of Uw left and planned to do subjectwise, so we have one month of work ahead. lets say 3 weeks then lets do nbmes do uw random online you will love your own spirit..its a must do ONLINE RANDOM okay im goint to rest my mind tonight and starting from tomorrow cheer up these low scores should only encourage us especially that althoug low they mean that we have managed all these stuff, have organized in one big pooh

and please if you dont have trouble in time management forget about kaplan qbank for now. if god forbid you cannot bring up your score after uworld and mbt in next weeks then .. let's don't discuss that probability

Haha that's true.. see I used to live in New York for 8 years then came to Egypt and got into med school here then I'm waiting to be done with my steps to get back The political situation here is really boiling lots of imprisonments and harrasments thats true but I really hope it gets better one day..

I think we need a new thread about politics so lets stay oriented on step 2 here haha I just woke up my eyes half open, slept for 7 hours. Got 30 more Dermatology Uworld questions to do then I'll study chapters from mtb that I never studied before which are: dermatology, preventive med, ophthalmology, psychiatry.

by the way where could I study ENT from? there's no chapter in mtb about ent?

Observerships aren't that strong in making a difference compared to electives and sub-i's. but if you already graduated and can't do electives then there's nothing left except observerships to do. You could get some good LORs through them and make some good connections, but program directors generally don't get amazed by observerships.

Tamta Its great that you took Nbme and plan to the real exam soon.

I actually did Nbme 1 and 2 offline back in couple of moths ago , where I made around 28 and 26 mistakes. But, I felt that I nbme exams are hard in the sense that you have make almost 85 percent correct to get a good score. After I did the nbmes I felt that I am weak in differentiating things when they are presented in a vague way.

So, I actually slowed down a lot started reading things little bit elaborately.Hearing Kaplan lecture notes now.

Because of strategic mistakes I am dragging a lot.

Anyway, u did well after finishing USMLE WORLD take assessment test. I am sure your score will boost up UWAS test .

Revise USMLE WORLD AGAIN

Oh guys you make me envy you.. Wish to be in Alexandria or anywhere in egypt. Couple of days would be enough to bring me back to life..

So im having terrible performance in uworld since my Nbme. And generally am not productive. Need to do my best.. Wake up in time and sleep in time.. Around 400 questions left. Not sure really don't have revision plan.. Probably will start chapter by chapter again with cardiology which i had such terrible performance that there was only left star and nothing more
Tonight will do biostatistics and psych which i always leave not respected because of my good performance in it

PPD + CXR-VE implies latent TB. NO RISK OF TRANSMISSION so NO SEPARATION.

Default Breastfeeding contraindications

So again:
Viral diseases only HIV and HSV ( active lesions on or near nipple)
Active TB, sepsis, malaria, typhoid fever
Breast cancer
Substance abuse (others than alcohol and tobacco although mtb3 states nicotine as absolute contra)
Also mtb states Hep b also contra until infant is vaccinated, although uworld states generally no about hep c,b.

Any corrections please

Thank you. I took nbme 4 days before. Form 4. Planning in 3rd week of december to take form 6.
I would advise taking nbme after finishing uworld, then after revising uworld .. Then scores should show what to do. Of course extended feedback. I personally dont think that it is accurate in giving your weak areac, cause itis individual ad it is about how much questions are in which field and what predominates, but it is definitely accurate so it is our weapon not our enemy to plan our exams correctly and timely.

Missed question from uworld because of explanation that i remembered well from kaplan q bank.
So doing uworld mostly, will finish unused questions in next 3 days. Then start marked ones which are around 1300. Will finish them until December 17. Then life will show what to do..

Hey tamta,

Have you done Kaplan qbank for step2 or step3 ? Did you find it worth doing because I am short of time so I dont think I can spare time for it.

Did u take nbme after 1st reading of uworld ? How many times do u intend to finish uworld ?

I am so sorry for asking so many questions

I have few more questions tamta. I am really sorry but need to clear these doubts before I actually start taking nbme

Do we get to see our wrong questions with the question stem if we take expanded feedback ( as the sample feedback mentions it) ?

How do we know the correct answer ? Is there any place where we can find all the correct answers ?

Do we take standard paced or self paced ?

Thanks a lot!

Recommend standard paced. Because nbme is the real true assessment for us, so you need to feel as in exam. Time is very important on step2 especially.
Feedback only shows you wrong answers with question stem. You never will know exactly correct answers for questions but online discussions have some quite organized answers posted for specific nbmes and generally going through those discussions on forum you mostly get your mistakes. Because someone exactly remember what he answered and was correct for question you made mistake. At least most part of them. You will have performance profile as for real exam.
What about kaplan i did it for step two. Online timed mode, but didn't do explanations. I spared time and wanted to start uworld asap.
Kaplans most important utility is to put a pressure mode on you and help you with time management, i.e. Teach you how to rush and hurry while reading question stem and try to pick up what you need for answer. Although as for study tool it is nothing compared to uworld. So its better to do it twice than some other q bank and in the end you do both not so perfectly.
I took nbme wit still 500 questions left in uworld. But just recommend to do a good revision of mtb before nbme. Prepare as for exam. Try to have everything in your mind i.e. Freshly read stuff. I wanted to assess myself and i did it. Not a very good score but it at least calmed me down that i am on right path.
