I too am goofing around. My strategy is a bit diff so not sure if we could plan n keep up with each other. I'm doin Kaplan + mtb + mksap4(this is only for medicine) Then I will do Kaplan q bank followed by second round of Kaplan + mtb before starting uworld.
Last stage of cramming mtb and doing self assessments.

Hey I stated recently, just like you I was debating weather or not to use kaplan notes, in the end I decided not to... but I am doing the Kaplan Videos with MTB 2 and MTB 3

I have finished around 2/3rd of IM, will finish it by the 14th of this month...

Which is the best Qbank other than Uworld, I still am trying to decide on my 2nd Qbank...

Kaplan q bank although has a lot of low yield info, but is the next best after uworld. Very few ppl do mksap 4. I'm doin it because its just 450 questions and only medicine. Finding it helpful so far. I'm done with bout half of medicine.

This is the first time that I am hearing of mksap 4. checked it out online.... I will keep it in mind as i move forward, I want a Qbank that covers all subjects....

I have heard from a lot of people and like you said Kaplan Qbank has a lot of low yeild stuff, but I think that it is important to cover the low yield topics at least once since I will not be using Kaplan Notes... so Kaplan Q bank is my 2nd Qbank

Definitely, for a second qbank Kaplan is the one to go for. Although not started it yet but ppl say its long question stems help you with the timings in the real deal.

Kaplan Q bank is a nice way to find yourslef through long boring questions. I like it, although im getting so bored during questions that if i didnt do it in a timed manner sometimes i think i can never get to the end of block. i dont suffer myself on explanations, so its just very nice way of practice for CK. because this exam is all about endurance, and timing.

did infectious questions yesterday 137 of them. have read just MTB very quickly for infectious skipped antibiotics because i have gone through them like on the first day after step1. percentages were in three blocks 54% 46% and 65%. all the wrong questions were about Antibiotics.
so idea is that for sure we need to do some reading just can't decide which one. my friend is doing KLNs thoroughly, he sais " of course there is info in there but its not arranged and blablabla.."

so for now i go on doing mtb will finish medicine in couple of days along with Kaplan bank. will decide what to do for second round.

Uweapon is a nice Q bank. i have done stats, rheuma, immuno from it for step 1 i wish i had time to do it completely.

main thing is achieved for now: facebook deactivated, goofing around terminated

if you have recently passed step one you can think about skipping if not you should do them. i hesitate like for a month dont know what to do. but in the end i think ill do notes or lectures either of them. because nearly everyone has done lectures or notes. they say they are both the same. so i think i will choose one of them but not now. after couple of blocks and percentages of Uworld.

i have also decided to watch videos and take a look through notes. will not loose too much time. i'll try to do them quickly and highlight while watching videos. because i ve been thinking for so long about doing them or not that i would have done them already by now.

This is what I kno:

There is no Step 1, CK or Step 3 exam during first 2 weeks of Jan

If you take the exam after Dec 31, ECFMG will not guarantee that results will be released in time for your residency application

Notes help to get a good understanding to answer Qs. So one read atleast IM is a must I feel. I dont like conrad videos.. its too long.. I tried (x2) but I still prefer the Kaplan High yield videos + MTB. M planning for Kap Q bank ID blocks today and tomorrow.

yeah too long and i dont have nerves to waste time on excitatory manner of lecturing. i lack info while answer kaplan qs. doing kaplan blocks on low scores. so i will do notes for sure. lectures will take too much time. what are kaplan high yield lectures? other than conrad's? i've heard that kaplan gynecology is also must. so lets do it. i will update how doing KLNs together with MTB will change my scores in Question bank

Kaplan High yield is the 100 hrs of conrads videos condensed to 45 hrs.. x1.5 its 30 hrs. Its available on the kaplan website. I found it worth it coz it gives a 3m subscription to Kaplan Q bank and follows MTB mainly.

Kaplan LN+ HY videos + MTB + Q bank subject wise

Great plan.
It's so hard to get back to usual study style.
To cut off everything that hampers studying.
My final idea is until i just leave doing everything else, i will not gonna be able to be efficient. that's sad. i thought step2 would be easier than step1.

Finishing IM doing nephrology from mtb + kaplan notes. Kaplan scores are low 50-60% but without questions cant keep pace so anyways using q bank as additional study material source. Will do uworld religiously. Good luck everyone

Anyone struggling with weight together with usmle? I do. lost 2 lbs feels Good but i need to reread sentences frequently enough

Kaplan CK Qbank Scores Thread

Read this thread one more time after couple of weeks and maybe after finishing kaplan q bank MI i should stick with UW to keep myself focused on real stuff. But anyways can't say that i dont like kap bank.
Improved nephrology 72-77%
Have moved up to 5-8 hrs/ per day. Started other subjects from both mtbs.

Conrad why did u do this to us. U could have written one big book instead.

Finished psych annotated mtb2 from mtb3 and step1 first aid. It took me hours comparing mtbs. And you cant skip either for these small subjects, there are things in each one that u should not miss.

For now less talk more work. October starting UW.
Anyone can say aproximately how much time i will need on one round of UW if i do 1 block per day?

I did mtb2 peds only, and i think should have done mtb2 and mtb3 together once and annotate mtb2 not to run between two books afterwards. if i read only mtb2 i do it too fast and feels like im wasting that read.

5-8hours is good.Yesterday I studied only 3hours because I was so tired
MTB2 is definitely deficient in many topics in paediatrics.I have still MTB3 paediatrics left.

Doing Ob. I did mtb2 and kaplan notes first. Now readin thru mtb3 and i find nearly everything that is missing in mtb2 and is in mtb3, is pure copy paste from lecture notes.

So, MTB 3 is as Kaplan lecture notes? I am doing MTB 2, and thinking of Kaplan notes vs. MTB 3, so need some advice

i like obstetrics kaplan notes so far, read mtb3 once. People say mtb3 is good for subjects other than IM, but so far i cant say that one can skip mtb2 in any subjects. Books seem the same but conrad knew what he was doing, you can't skip any one of them.

I'm sure he knew!
But I really don't have time for reading everything
I think I'll skip lecture notes

Skip it i think ill skip notes for MI and generaly notes are larger variants of mtbs so doing mtbs on 5 stars may even be better than moving around in lot of things

Hello everyone. I plan to take my step 2 ck by Feb 2014. I am done with all the goofing around after my step 1 as well. After thinking a lot about whether to go trough Kaplan L+N I decided against it and I am around a week through my IM on MTB 2. Should I be using Kaplan Qbank simultaneously along with my first read of mtb s or should I complete my first read of MTB 2 and 3 and then start up with my kaplan q bank as an initial qbank tool before I start up with my Uworld??
what do you recommend guys ?? any help would be appreciated!!
or any other things you did differently and would have wanted to rectify???

Default Obstetrics

Just finished kaplan qs obstetrics 71%, still left 30 pages of obstetrics from kaplan notes, but i improved percentages for sure after doing lecture notes. So on second read i may even read IM from notes. Although it seems everything that is in kaplan is covered in mtbs , reading little more material, or even reading same things twice in different books does its job anyway. So I am for kaplan in obstetrics so far.

Default Need your help!

I have started to practice UW in random and my average is low (59-48%). This is based on 7 blocks . Then I started to review and practicing Kaplan qbank based on each topics and I stop UW practicing. I was wondering is this a correct way of doing or I should continue UW along the review and Kaplan qbank.

Thanks

I think it is better to do the readings first together with kaplan bank. have a general idea about everything. than do the final fight with UWorld. kaplan will also help with time management of terribly long questions. I also had low percentages on kaplan bank, but improving after half of q bank done. hoping to do better on UWORDL. Generaly as a rule kaplan percentages are about 10% lower than uworld's.

Default 3 months 15 days

Started serious prep today. 3 months and 15 days is what i count before Ck in mid-january.

Finished Gynecology today. same as obstetrics- MTB3 is copy paste of kaplan notes in high yield topics. MTB2 is disgusting 8 pages of gynecology, unfair attitude to women conrad.
2 blocks kaplan 71%. left 10 mins in each block. again reading notes definetely improved my performance. doing questions quicker.
will update my progress, dreaming about trip in egypt after Ck exam in winter

Default Pediatrics

Half of pediatrics done from Kaplan notes. again like OB-Gyn all important topics are copy pasted in MTB3 even in exact same chart format. and pediatric notes even follow MTB3 topic by topic in sequential manner. what is missing in MTB3 for example chart about Vitamins you can easily find in MTB2. For chapter of immunology in pediatrics you can easily refer to MTB2 chapter of Immunology.
Let's see how i will manage questions on weekend, once I finish reading.

Am in full blown study nearly whole day hope to start Second Read and UW soon.

Looked at the beginning of this thread it was 4 weeks ago alreadyyy. need to hurry and do this quickly time is flying need to catch on it.
3 months should be more than enough if we use hours and days correctly. so lets do iiiiiiiiiiiittttttttt

just came back from hospital, i have 4 months off to prepare for CK. I wanna go back and work soon i love being a doctor. so need this thing done by january. need to get back to work and normal life.

I am trying to have responsibility with this thread to be in good study shape day by day.
so pediatrics need to be finished by monday with 250 questions!!!!!

lets race each other how faster each one of us can do otherwise we can prepare forever for CK. friends are waiting, patients waiting everyone waiting for uuuusssss to be finished with this "some kind of strange behavior of sitting and reading things whole days, weeks and months" good luck

Default Sunday

Well, this was a long sunday. 10hrs.
Finished Pediatrics KLN. Changed my opinion i may even reread kaplan peds than run between mtbs and still be deficient in review of lot of subjects. First 150 pages seemed very much covered by mTBS. but the other subjectwise part is really covering mostly everything and are totally deficient in MTBS.
I decided not to loose time annotating, just around 50 notes that i found interesting for me. otherwise i really cant put kaplan peds in MTBS.

did 200 Qs. 60% , i dont know Qs were smaller or what- did nearly 1 q in a minute.

Here i am so tired don't even know what to do. will do explanations of questions tomorrow + 44 preventive ped Qs. and decide to start with surgery or Neurology and delve into Internal.

I miss my friends, my kids, my family god help me with these hard months.

Hey by any chance any of you interested in GS. Would you have any idea if completing GS in the home country improves chances of a match.

hey can you tell me how you're doing the qbank...i mean alongside course reading...are you just testing yourself on the topics you're reading on that day, or random timed mode? also, you're not doing the videos right? maybe thats how you're managing the time. My day goes by just reading from 3 different books and watching videos. i'd have liked to do questions but no time!

I am not watching videos, I have started and watched couple of topics by conrad but that was exhausting. too long, too artistic
im doing kaplan bank subjectwise. but timed, if you don't do questions timed it can take you forever. im reading some subject and doing the questions when i finish reading. or sometimes i even start doing questions before finishing reading. because only thing that makes me satisfied is doing questions. that's when i feel that i really am preparing.
i am thinking how to do UWorld. subjectwise or random

I have background in general surgery. and lot of people say that thats the thing i should try. I have no idea what to do. maybe some clinical practice will help you, if they like you and call on interview. I am following general surgery residency matching thread if that helps you.

Thanks. I know the videos are exhausting but since i dont have a study partner, i'm thinking wathcing someone explain stuff will help reinforce the knowledge. guess i will do questions after my 1st reading. annotation takes forever...i am just writing down stuff from kaplan onto a separate notebook.
you should do uworld random timed only. thats very imp. it will be the only real deal simulation in your prep...you gotta train yourself like that. you're already doing subjectwise in kaplan...so you need to change that format for sure.

yes i am thinking about doing in random mode. annotations really take forever, and you still can never annotate these deficient mtbs enough to feel safe.
so i also think about writing down in a separate notebook, because for every single note i need to find the right place in book and i don't wanna do U world subjectwise just because it will be easier to find where to annotate.
also the annotations should be easy and comfortable to reread. which i find hard when scribbling in MTBS. with step 1 i lost lot of time with annotations didn't do Uworld in timed or random manner. so these are the things that need to be changed for step2. otherwise i will end up being unable to manage time.

Default Surgery

Yeahh, another big day!

Finished half of surgery and 5 blocks of surgery questions for these 2 days. 72%. half of kaplan surgery notes ahead. although there are only 200 pages, surgery notes are written far more densely than OBgyn or peds.

Feeling quite winded up, that's good. Some tips to restart after slowing down: when i start slowing down while reading , i move on and do one block of questions. timed for sure. that go back to reading.
again if i slow down i do some push ups don't have any other tips sorry
this mixing reading and question making really helps me. and generally its all about attitude, and holding yourself. I did one block in the morning very reluctantly and slowly (i was not tired), just now 5pm to 6pm after whole day of sitting and reading when i really am deadly tired: i did block anxiously 30 qs in 35 mins, kinda that speed.
i even answered correctly some very stupid questions because i already got accustomed to Kaplan q bank and know what they want me to answer
i missed twice Ogilvie syndrome. to say the truth i still cant see any difference between it and paralytic ileus. so just elderly, and non - abdominal operation are the clues.

decided definately to do UW random mode. because when you read subject, then do qs subjectwise you remember everything that you read a little time ago, so its not true assessment.

I'll have reacreational evening today: will read Breast which i have left from OBGYN. and continue reading surgery untill late evening. will start Internal tomorrow. and mix left overs from surgery with it. plan is to do 1 subject a day. lets see how i can manage it.
when i dont go out for any single reason, i have very fruitful days, so avoiding social life and not getting distracted are the only clues to efficient preparation i guess.

Good luck hard workers

So cool! I feel motivated already! Thanks for sharing your routine. I agree..the most fruitful days are when we're just home avoiding all distractions. unfortunately, i havent been able to do either yet. Barely getting any studying done. Time to buck up! :/ Soooo much to do!

If i just dont start the morning with the study then im totally lost during whole day. So much to do really. And if i cant study i feel terribly irritated. So i may be tired now but feel that havenot lost a day and did something good for future days.
Also just found a good thing the second half of surgery is written in nice vignette form, so will finish it easier and sooner.
Good luck, and try to do what has to be done soon, otherwise preparation can last forever

Default Endocrinology

Doing internal from kap notes.. feeling very satisfied. Friends said it's not arranged and so on, but i liked it maybe cause im not that arranged either
Step 1 First Aid also help me a lot with Endocrinology. I am weak at it. although totally love it. i never am able to remember what is high and what is low. in parathyroidisms, thyroidisms, blablabla.. but working on it

i lost time while thinking about skipping kaplans or not, but maybe its good that im doing kaplan internal after first read of MTB and kaplan bank, cause now i see what i was deficient of while doing questions.
Did block of Radiology in the morning 71%
plan to do kaplan Q explanations in endocrine later evening.

Totally agree with dude that said "Never skip Kaplan. helps understand MTB better.

of course can't say anything about Videos. I started them but Don't have nerves to have fun with Conrad now. Would like to meet him live in residency though
Thinking about the first day of my residency in Manhattan, in working uniform drinking coffee outside somewhere in starbucks although i hate coffee
and also started worrying a lot that i will be 8 years graduate in 2015 (effect of following some Match threads).
Well thats end of dreaming, going back to work

Good luck guys

Of course y have to open step1 biostats, step1 kaplan notes they say its better than step2 note and i may even review high yield biostatistics, cusquestions come really hard on biostats, and just npv, ppv, sense and specificity doesnt help.

Also there's no biostatistics in Mtb havenot met just some piece of ethics

Oh dude if you had seen me couple of minutes ago...I've been crying like hell while talking with my mom and made her crazy...
They kicked me out of job which i was sustaining family with, because i wrote some "nothing special" criticism about situation in ou children's hospital in national newspaper.. And since than i am so focused
well indeed for this month did quite a lot will finish whole first read of mtbs, kaplan notes every subject, kaplan bank without explanations, already am hypotensive, with deep venous thrombosis and labile mood, fat, edematous, hirsut (this one is part of joke), no acne so far.. Seating whole day really makes me invalid
i remember myself before step1, never wanna be like that but i'll have to be like that one more time.. And this exam seems even worse.
I also have two kids, good kids, but kids, whom im trying to kick away from house and stay alone and study.. So if you have a cosy room with no one disturbing you enjoy your time buddy and quiet life.
I am also an old IMG. So if i were thinking about the problems i would go nuts.
I am only thinking how many pages, in how many hours, how many days for a subject how many questions, whats percentage.. Cant even think about anything else.. I cant even meet my friends, enjoy with them anything.
Not doing anything else, even when i am not capable of reading anything i still sit at the same place where i study.. Shortly to say ..I am totally nuts. Thanks for question that really helped me express my **** right now.
Going to sleep with highest, bipolarest mood ever..

Only advice to myself, need to move or i will finish with BP 70/40 and couple of infusions as i needed before step1 and for you advice start it quickly, until your fresh and you gonna be just fine. I could not start kaplan notes right away so did mtb first, than kaplan bank than slowly notes and so on. Speeding up, like in everything in this life.. So don't lose time. Take offs from everywhere or whatever just start morning with study.

Good luck guys work hard, there's no other way.. And nothing better that we an do for our lives..

Default Cardio + Er

Same story for cardiology and emergency medicine. Kaplan note has more info but mtb is written for passing this exam. Annotated mtb2. For emergency medicine mtb3 is deficient. Gonna finish leftovers from GI.
Will finish internal in 2-3 days. Than make one read of mtb2 in couple of days, along with mtb3 in chapters where i haven't used both and start uworld.
Hope for percents above 70. To safely purchase eligibility period.
Its nice to finish first read and have general idea what am i dealing with for ck.

yeah good luckto all of us, feeling much better today. We have to do our best, and we will definitely find our way.
This long way that we have started should be finished from our side. Then we shall hope for the best. on match 2015.
are not we the proudest members of society we leave in, doctors who can afford to prepare and pass USMLE exams. yeah we are so we can do anything.
These exams have definitely changed my life, my attitude to myself first of all.. so I am happiest person. Good doctor and hope to be a better one soon..

yeah keep working. in summer it was easier dealing with temperature. now i can't seat in warm room am too relaxed and not concentrated. so usually keep freezing in medium temperature room.
at least its not nice summer and nobody's having fun outside

finished today. its better to do emergency medicine kaplan notes subjectwise. Cardio with cardiac chapter, neuro with neurology chapter. so from a "big" ER chapter you will only be left toxicology, burns and bites.

Welcome.. To hard workers' club..
started hematology today Kaplan notes along with Mtb. Sometimes i really think its a waste of time reading notes, but.. Needs to be done once.. Mtb will be read much more easily afterwards.. This process of comparison of books with each other really emphasizes topics, words, sentences that otherwise would be left inattentively
