For Graves disease radioactive Iodine is best but in pregnant woman anti thyroid drugs

Default Both; Stepwise management

You first give antithyroid drugs because if you use Radioactive Iodine when you kill the thyroid you will probably cause thyroid storm because those cells will release the hormone they have stored. Once everything is stabilized with antithyroid drugs and B Blockers THEN you give RAIU to ablate the thyroid.

If you are pregnant it is either antithyroid drugs or surgery, never give Radiation to pregnant women.
