Hey, aman_j! I'm sure everything will be alright! If I remember, you had excellent score on Step 1. Everybody are pretty unhappy after the test, but than everything turns out great. But, I understand your feelings. I have my exam in March. And I already feel bad about it...

Yea, good to see you too!
I'm not satisfied with my CK preparation till now. I'm actually working hard, but don't have enough time during the day to commit myself, as I could for Step 1.
Tomorrow, after UWSA I'll decide if I should postpone my exam.

Guys....finally done with my exam yesterday
One thing I can say for sure that it was freaking lengthy so do practice as many qs as you can in a timed mode. Thanks so much for all your support in this journey. I will post my experience soon. Work hard and then party hard

I am just watching people taking the exam one after another without doing anything being unable to take it by myself. But, I know my day will come .Just making a summary almost everything I read during my prep. I am about 65 percent done. Without finishing it I will not get the courage to take it.I am actually paying for the strategic mistakes I did during initial stages of my study.

Now, doing Cardiology . Hope to finish it by today. I am trying hard to be finished with it by march 12. I hope I will be ready for exam 2/3 weeks after that. May be , it would be april I should take the exam

You never give a timeline but leave it on the patient. Whenever comfortable the patient may resume.

All the best for the exam to you Neuron.

I am starting UW today and I am really nervous as after completing the first read with KLN and MTB 2&3, I don't feel very knowledgeable...fingers crossed!

Will be doing in mixed timed mode and then take an NBME after about a month into the question bank...

Don't lose heart man. It takes time to make the right pace at the beginning. Time urself with the explanations and try to take not more than 3 to 4 hrs on one block. Im hvin trouble too, n i gotta revise mtb also. But im trying to keep my priority uworld, and once i make the right pace, ill start revising mtb too. Lets keep it up. The end is near!

I'm in the exact same state...difficulty managing uworld along with mtb...decided to take 3days just to revise mtb so hopefully i can fully focus on uworld then and even improve performance. My exam is exactly a day after yours...scheduled already, and i just have to take it. no scope of postponing cuz my cs in the end of may!!! have my flights booked and everything. just gotta do it!

Default Way in over my head

After attempting 75Qs a day for UW, I have decided to keep it own to one block a day as I am barely able to review all the answers and wake up the next morning...my body is sore and my mind is exhausted...hopefully over time I will get to do more blocks in one day...for now I am keeping it simple and going at a pace that actually works for me...boy do I feel stupid!!!...

Anybody did Kaplan q book .Yesterday ,I Did One block of internal medicine .Did 7 mistakes out of 50.I never did it before. I am doing it because I thought It has the highest yield questions and topics .

By the way , I did Usmle world 2 time and usmle rx 1 time . The worst thing I did read kind of haphazardly and did not read Kaplan lecture notes early in my prep.Thats why I miss key linkage. I doing a summary note on all the topics I read from different places. Its taking a huge time. I am only 60 percent done. But, the good thing is what ever I did now in my fingertips and no confusion there.

I have huge personal problems of being negative and getting slow because of that

I am here for inspiration. I see people going for exam just finishing World for 1 time where I read world so thoroughly that in my second subscription my percentile is 98 .

I just don't understand why I don't feel ready for the exam , is it my negetevity or is it the preparation.

Please advise

Trust me 1 block a day if u are doing for the first time , takes a lots of time. in step 2 ck there are lots of discrepecies in between books, just follow the usmle world guideline. take notes from it anf focus how to differentiate between choices

Thanks for the tip. I hope all goes well with the results...this thing can be tricky indeed. One question though: Will you say MTB 2&3 and UWorld are enough for the exam?

MTB2/3 and uworld cover around 95% of the exam. Again ped and obgyn were consistently and I found some topics that were not covered by mtb.
Despite beeing a neuro resident I found some neuro qts quite tricky.

Hi guys! It's D day for me tomorrow! UWSA 265, free FREDV2 92% correct. Although my statistics is not bad at all, I feel like it's going to be super tough tomorrow. I'll try to be focused, but I'm also sure that after the exam, I'll feel awful. Also, I'm not that confident, as for the step 1, and a bit angry because some q I've encountered during my preparation are completely opposite to my previous experience and sense of logic. Statictics, adds and abstracts are also terrible, and I think I will skip later two and won't even bother to answer them tomorrow.

Hi everybody! Just to let you know how was yesterday. I won't lie. It's really hard, and when I say hard, I mean questions are so long and vague. Statistics was though, I had 4 blocks with 44q (although in 2 I had ad), 2 with 43 and 2 42. Ad and/or abstract in almost every block, even 2 in some. Concepts I've never read and encountered, and some strange pictures too. I find it harder than Step 1, especially giving the fact that there was maybe about 10 q overall that I knew the answer while was reading the vignette!
Anyway, let's be positive! My advice to all of you, read slowly, but answer fast. Follow your gut, and don't think a lot. Question is vague, but carries the concept you have somewhere deep in your brain. Don't "overthink" it (as I did sometimes).
Best of luck everybody!

You have to be prepared that there won't be much time. At the end I decided to leave ads and abs last, and that was probably a good decision. My qs were so long, and I had to read most of them twice. Also, more than 50% of qs had labs. You know, actually, qs were so long, like whole page. And that's definitely time consuming. And so vague. But, now, when I reconsider, and this is my advice, just follow your gut, and don't think much. That's what they want. And they just guide you towards your decision. No matter how vague the question is. I wish I knew this two days ago.

Thanks for ur highly informative account of the test. What is the best resource for prep in ur opinion? And when u said that there were some new concepts, what do u mean by that?

I agree it's super boring to finish uworld, i am still going forward with a slow pace of 1 block per day, sometimes i take 2 days, it's frustrating, even though i've read KLN notes (twice for IM) and read MTB 2 and 3, but still q's give you a better knowledge, i wished i would've started the q's very early in the prep. it would've been much easier, anyway i had to vent.

Now let's focus on finishing uworld ASAP, that should be our main goal NOW.

I've scheduled mine in May.

I must go in at that time, since my Extended eligibility period ends by May otherwise i'll lose a lot of money, plus i wanna finish CK so much it's been a long time.

I followed your lead and scheduled mine for June 6...I have until June 30 to take it so I am hoping by this date I am ready to go...this is taking a lot longer than I anticipated...UW is a nightmare right now...

Sorry for posting late! I just went rebound! Reactivated fb, watching cricket worldcup, meeting friends and family! Releived is a small word for it, lol!

As far as exam experience is concerned, I used to think that eighter people tend to exaggerate here or it's the exam day pressure which makes it ever so tough! I don't mean to scare you guys but just a reality check that real exam questions are indeed very long. I figured if you simplify them after reading fast, the content asked isn't from outer space. It's all we have learned from uw, mtbs and Kaplan. It's just that during question banks and nbmes you need to practice to time urself to finish blocks 10 mins earlier as it will take longer on the exam day.

Don't prolong the agony of preparing for this exam for too long. Uw second review really helps but make sure it's quick. My old posts are scattered so il just summarize my prep.

Kaplan med, paeds and psych x 2
Kaplan Surgery and obgyn x 3
Mtb 2 for med mtb3 for rest x 4
Kaplan qbank quick 15 days run offline
Uw first run avg 70%
Did 40 blocks again + wrong ones avg around 89%
Nbme 6 five weeks out 227
Uwsa two weeks out 246
Nbme 4 six days out 242
Fred free 150 six days out 85%

All this took around 5-5.5 months probably a bit longer than should have been. I am expecting my score to be lower and came out of the center with a very bad feeling. Heard it's true with most exam takers yet they manage to score well.

Most importantly work out a strategy to solve questions in quick time, I will emphasize again and again. Read last line first. At timed when stems too long reading options first also helps. So you know in advance what to rule in/out. Never be in a state in which you read questions passively without processing and then having to read again. Most probably you won't get time to see marked questions again so ur first attempt has to be the best one but at the same time don't spend too much time as to compromise remaining questions.

You might perform bad in a few blocks but don't let it shake ur confidence. Wash ur face, eat an energy bar or have caffeine. What ever helps you stay alert and awake.

Questions were mostly core IM or med related with equal distribution among rest. Do biosrats well as core concepts will be tested and it's not there in mtb.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any more questions!

Yes!!! MAny questions! :/
But first, thanks for writing out your experience and helping us out.
When you say do biostats well and its not in mtb, where exactly are we supposed to read it from?? i havent even touched it yet, saved it for last and my exam is in 5 weeks. I dont want to prolong my prep unnecessarily like you said, so have to double time on my prep now. Please tell me core areas to focus in these last weeks leading up to the main day (preferably sequential so i know how to proceed).
Is psych kln helpful? and how much time does it take? i only read it from mtbs so far and supplementing from uworld....uw psych seems very easy even in comparison to step 1.
I am very slow in reading questions. and i literally manage to finish uw blocks with about a min or 2 to spare. :/ Is it possible to change the strategy like you said in just a month's time??
And you havent mentioned ethics? how imp and where to prepare from?
Thanks a lot! Good luck with your result!

Hi guys,
Taking my test on Friday!
Just need to pass!
I mentioned before I am a fellow already a specialist and this is my second fellowship actually! so, I need only to pass.

Is an average answering 70% of questions enough to pass? I will try to improve it in the following days though! I don't have time to study, That's the problem !

Thanks!

Default Yet to take exam

Ok. this is awkward and ironic! I was the one to start the thread and I have not given the exam. But, my plans changed. I wont be giving it any sooner either. I was wondering if I could change the year to 2015 Hope this thread was useful for other test takers. Please share your experience and results! And, those who are in a position like mine (I am sure not as worse as mine), dont worry we are together
