Listening My Options

Hi everyone,
I got my step 2 ck result 10 days ago, completely disappointed and depressed. I didn't sleep well the night before and had test anxiety, couldn't focus well. I got 198. I'm done with step 1 (220s) and step 2cs ( 1st attempt), am an old IMG, a citizen, I had my 4 LoRs already uploaded and have my PS prepared and was waiting for ECFMG certification to apply for 2014 match; now due to this failure, everything is up in the air.
Should I
1. Retake the exam in 3 months and go ahead with 2014 match & apply in January. or
2. forgo 2014 match, and apply for 2015 match ( am already an old IMG, the thought of another year and half is giving me knots in my stomach ).
I am too sad to look at the books again but now I'm starting to come to terms with the situation and want to get ECFMG certification at all costs.

What should I do? please advise.

Hey I am in the same situation. Please keep in touch if you want to study motivate etc. I definitely didn't get enough sleep and missed it by a few PTs too. That might have slowed me down in the exam wih reading questions fast too because I have no problems with timing in uworld .
I was thinking of applying 2015 with step 3 because most spots are gone by jan

Unhappy

Guys I am in the same situation. Got my results a week ago and got 201. I could not manage time in real exam and missed like 20 questions over all.
I want to start again but still confuse which resources I should use. I am planning to give exam in Jan. Lets encourage each other.

I read KLN once. then MTB x4 times. with UW 64% first time mood.
NBME 4 45 days before exam 192.
UWSA 226 14 days before exam
free 150 question 76% one day before exam
Real Exam : failed with 2 points..201 score

I clearly know that I could not manage time in real exam. In every block I had 6 mins left with 7-8 questions...I missed almost 3-4 questions in each block.
Now I am planning to sit again in January. I am confused what should I do ? Definetly I will not use new resources. I am making schedule and plan.
I already have deleted that I failed.

Good luck

Good luck. I will finish my first read of mtb in internal+ kaplans in obgyn, peds, surgery.+ kaplan q bank. 60%s so far. Surgery and emergency medicine left. Than will start kaplan notes in internal, second round of mtb +Uworld.

Make a plan and follow it. You have done the main thing: deleted the failure.
None of us is guaranteed of anything, we are all working hard dedicating everything to these exams without even having any percent sure that we gonna reach the end successfully, so just do your best. Lets get hell out of this exam in january.

That sounds exactly like me...5 qns every block now we know what the problem was. But seriously, the question stems were so long every block I promised myself that ill rush in the next one but it never happened.
Your UWSA was really good, and I know someone else with 220s on their UWSA and NBME that also failed. I m so confused now. I really dont know what to do. I did MTB and UW.

Hi folks,
I was feeling so down, my family took me out for the weekend, sorry missed your messages. I am still getting over this shock.
@Mommysgirl and @Fightback : I had the same problem with time management, the last 15 qs in every block, I had to run through picking 2-3 clues and answering quickly whatever was a close fit without doing justice to each question and missed few qs.
Now my goal is to practice as many qs as I can every day in timed mode and anxiety reduction. I studied mtb2 four times and mtb3 once for extras, watched kaplan videos for IM, did uw 2.5 times. I did 3/4 uw with a friend( her subscription), so when I took my subscription, I started recognizing all the qs...this was a big mistake as my scores didn't reflect real analysis and time management.oh well, I have to come to terms with it now. So my game plan is do all kaplan lecture notes with videos,mtb2 & 3 again, take kaplan q-bank and uw bank. yeah let's motivate each other and beat this exam with a high score > 245.

I keep thinking the same thing God protected us from a low score but we also have an attempt on our transcript now which we have to explain, so upset about it.

Yes right. Most of the psychi questions were at the end of block when you are rushing for time.

yeah and in biostats, I had 2-3 ads/abstracts per block; people said that these were easy on the exam, but not even one question was answerable for me so I guessed, so thats 3 qs per ad/abstract...6-9 qs per block lost. I dont want to repeat that next time.

Hey !

I have started today with Psychi , I am following MTB3 topics but first reading through kaplan followed by MTB3.
I have made a 40 days plan to study all 5 subjects from KPLN followed by mtb2/3. and end of each subject I will do kaplan q bank of that subject.
After 40 days I will take NBME 2 and will decide next hopefully.
stay calm. we are here together .

I have lost one month after passing step 1 in deciding to do kap notes or not. I did other subjects than internal and liked it. Now planning to do kap notes internal as quickly as possible and start u world afterwards. So decide soon and don't lose time. I think thats need to be done at least once. Reading is the other thing and doing explanations from q bank another, they fill each other. And reading notes definately help you do questions better.

I did entire mtb2 four times and mtb3 once for surg, obgyn, peds and did uw 2.5 times and kaplan vids for IM. My impression was most qs were very long compared to uw and many concepts were thrown together in one question. so my view is we need better understanding of the concepts which is hard to get from mtb ( mtb is good for after having a strong clinical knowledge base). Me being an old Img, may be my concepts got rusty, so I intend to study kaplan lecture notes with the vids which makes it more interactive, then revise mtb.

And the time management is very crucial. When one question can have the possibility of many systems involved, we have to come up with the right answer in one minute which we don't do in real life scenarios when a patient comes to us. We'll have many differentials in our mind( if its not an obvious case), then we send for different labs and make our decision and treat accordingly( that's why I think step 2cs is a fair exam than step 2ck). Step 2 ck is not really testing our medical knowledge, its testing our speed to make a medical decision in one minute( which is ridiculous) but oh well, we have to accept it and do well. so I think we have to practice doing qs a lot, we wont have much time to analyse, that's why the more we know concepts better, the quicker we can correctly answer; kaplan notes and vids will definitely help us to get those concepts.

Work on your weak areas on uw, do the kap notes and videos and mtb for those weak areas , you can even do 1 block of those areas subject wise and then do random uw and see if the score improves; if u improve your score, great, if not then you really have to see question wise what concepts you are not getting and work on those until it is clear for you. Good luck.
