Question Step 2 CK score = 219...what do I do?

The chances of getting accepted now have plummeted. What should I do? Do I forget about residency to the U.S? Do I still have any kind of chance at being accepted.

I'm just sitting and crying in my room right now. I had 75% avg on UWorld first pass, and my UWSA was 232. I honestly don't know what happened.

Alhamdulilah.

Any advice at all would be appreciated.

Lot of people get low scores but they still got interviews. Depends on your general situation. And mostly on your personal mood, how you will handle and move one. U have done CS if you are not an ancient graduate as they call people like me 7-8 years already. You should definitely move on. I still move on although have very low chances. But my part should be done in this long road. Then i can say that it didn't work out. But without trying to the end you can't say it will work out or not. Step1 is not an easy exam to give. It will need your concentration and more time then CK. So after one good cry you can decide in your self. What are you able to do.
When i got my step1 results i was crying like hell although i was quite happy with results.. So just calm down

Just briefly there always is a chance if you give it a chance, so give it a chance. You have gone quite a long road already, so i would continue it no matter what.

Thank you Tamta for your kind words.

But I'm still wondering, realistically, and not idealistically, should I just give up?

At this point, money and time are both really precious at our house, and I can't afford to waste any more for my family right now. My mom was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma a couple of years ago, and I don't want to make her spend her time waiting for something that would probably never happen.

I graduated this year, passed CS on first attempt, and will have very good USCE (already set up), inshaAllah by September.

Keeping in mind that money and time are scarce at my house. And assuming an amazing Step 1 score (which I don't know about, because I was expecting a full 20 points higher than what I scored today)....do I still have a reasonable shot at an IM residency? Or should I just call it quits now?

Your mom would not be happy if you quit now.
you're fresh graduate, first attempts, especially if you have set up nice clinical experience. go for it!!!! but step1 is really hard. Ck would be much easier if you have had step1 done first. So calm down. don't panic, and don't let others think for you . decide you by yourself. for yourself. what is better for you. You have gone through half way, now you have left another half which i consider is Step1. so god bless. don't miss hat september USCE please, you at least won't be filtered because of 5 year graduation cutoff as me don't you see your advantage?
OKay I am not forcing anything for sure. just wanted to support. nothing begins and ends with USMLE but this is the road we have chosen.

Do yourself a favor, MOVE ON!!!!!!!!! Stop thinking about this or that. Because this is considered as waste of time. You pass on your first attempt. There are others that pass on their 2nd attempt and STILL made it through. Want to make mom happy? Then don't quit. Mom knows that she has this problem and at the same time, mom doesn't care about her problem because she knows that you are doing something with your life. Quit now, or stop now, will make mom upset and then worries about what she has.

It's true that STEP 1 hell hard because nobody on the earth knows what sources to use. USA is big land and has room for everything. Those who said that "No chance with low score" are totally full of ****!!!! They don't like in general, about us succeeding. Think about it. If someone scores 210 on their Step 2 CK and can't get anywhere, then why in the hell would they make 203 a passing score? Why not 250? See what I am talking about?

I just took my Step 1 recently and pass on my first attempt. I got 191. I am happy that I passed. I am also upset that I didn't get 265. People told me a lot of negative things about. I stood up and said "go the hell because I passed. There are who failed and took it again. Nothing happened to them. As a matter of fact, these people with 2nd attempt got to the program of their choice. Can you explain that? And there are who passed with low scores, got to where they wanted. Can you you explain that as well?" That's what I said.

So the bottom of line is stop the negative ideas and continue on and mom will be happy. Mom isn't looking at her pain; she's looking at your success. Don't make a poor judgement.

Seriously, thank you both for your replies. They helped far more than you will ever know.

After recuperating from the shock of yesterday, and spending time yelling at my Kaplan books (I blame them. Clearly, this was their fault), I have come to the decision that I will keep trying. I've already spent 10 years and tens of thousands of dollars on this dream, and that it wouldn't make sense to quit now when there was still even a tiny speck of hope left.

On a more personal note, I don't even think I was upset because the chances of residency were reduced. It's the fact that I've been studying for this exam for so very long, and that the score (which is not so bad a score as I initially thought, but it just wasn't what I was expecting) made me feel like I had failed. That I wasn't somehow good enough. I don't know. I guess my ego/self-esteem became too tied up in all of this, and took a serious hit yesterday.

And to my dear brothers and sisters who were also devastated after the arrival of yesterday's score...shake it off. This is a defining moment for you. Be that person who gets knocked down, but then gets back up again. And who never gives up. Be awesome.

Lawliet, never give up! I also received my step 1 212 score last week and was very disappointed to know it because I was expecting something like 220s-230s :/

A few mistakes I made from which you can benefit a lot:
1- behavorial science and biostatistics is very important! I thought they were a little low-yield or "lift-your-score questions" and they ended up being the opposite.
2- do all the questions on UWorld Qbank and review them twice.
3- schedule the exam only when you have almost finished your study plan, unless you live in usa or other areas where is more difficult to take step 1.

I'm an international medical student (IMS) from Portugal, could you please give some advice on how can I find solid USCE? I really want to have one, so that I can boost my application but I'm not sure what are the best programs and the most IMS-friendly.

Good luck!
