Experiences My step 2 ck experience

Took my exam on 28 Oct and got my result on 20th Nov.
IMG(Pakistan) YOG 2008. Step 1 228.
I am planning to apply for IM next year.

STEP 2 CK; 241

PREPARATION;
Total duration 6 months.

MATERIAL USED
MTB2 (Medicine and Psychiatry)
MTB3 (All other subjects)
Uworld(twice)
Kaplan Q bank(half once)
FA (biostats)
Kaplan video lectures (only for OBGYNE and biostats)

I read MTB2 and MTB3 like 10 times. Initially I thought they are of no use but after reading them multiple times, I came to know that they have increased my knowledge a lot. The more you read them, the more you will feel confident. Do them well, they will help you more than any other book!
I started uworld after two reads of MTB 2 and 3. I did it random, timed and unused. In first two blocks, I got 52% which made me really upset but I kept on going. I would read the explanation of every question and would add a lot of information to MTB if it is not there. My scored improved but throughout I was struggling with time management. I did uworld again and read all the explanations. I learnt a lot from uworld.
Do it twice and you will learn many concepts which you need for ck. Beside knowledge, it also teach you how to think in exam.

Kaplan Q bank, I did it only half (timed, unused and random). I couldnt read its explanations but it did help me overcome my biggest problem and that was of time management.

I studied regularly for 6 months. Though I am working in ICU and not able to study for whole day but I tried to study whenever I got time. During preparation it feels like I can't do it and its difficult but don't give up! You can do it, if you are persistent.

EXAM;

It was the worst nightmare and scary day I have ever experienced in my life. Ok fine, I have been reading other people experiences in which it was obvious that exam has become difficult and time management is a big problem but I never expected what I found there in exam. I was rushing through every block. Couldn't revise any marked question and couldn't read Drug Add+Abstract question just guessed them and guessed other 4 questions. Majority of questions had answers which were very much vague, so had make an educated guess. Though the rest of the questions were are easy. I was to much worried that I would fail the test....

I don't want to scare you but am trying to mention what I experienced in exam. So my advice is that don't take this time issue lightly. Try to do atleast two Q banks and in timed mode. And make every concept clear.
If you study hard, I am sure you will score well. I am just an average person and have full time job, so if I scored 241 you can score more than me.

Uworld
first time 65%
2nd time 85%
Kaplan Q bank(half)
64%
UWSA (5 days before the test)
242/610
Free 150
84%
usmle step 2 ck 241

I am very much happy with this score.
I was not expecting this score but I am thankful to Allah!

I will be happy to answer all of your questions.

Thank you.

Concepts in uworld help you answer the questions more in exam but
kaplan help you in time management for exam. If you have problem
in managing time then better do kaplan onine in timed mode.

Congratulation! You did really well.
I was wondering if you read Kaplan lecture notes or was mtb 2 + 3 enough?

Fixer
Step 1 taker

Thank you.
I didn't read a single page of kaplan lecture notes becuase I didn't have enough time. So I cann't comment that how they are important.
What I know is that if you master both MTB 2 and MTB3 along with 2 Q banks then you would be Ok in exam. This is in case if you want 240+ but
if you want 260+ then I don't know that what sources should be used for that.

After taking both steps, my conclusion is that one should use adequate material for study but that material should be mastered and I don't think one can master all the kaplan books.
If you are not working and have enough time then you may spend one or two months initially on kaplan lecture notes and then start MTB.
Best of luck.
