Unhappy UW and NBME Score

Hi,
I did UW last week and I did a lot of questions wrong, and I got 219.
I just did NBME 6, and I did 40 wrong of 184 (~ %78), and they gave me only 210
I don't know why.

I'm looking for > 230 in the real exam.

Is my NBME score considered good?
My exam is in 5 days, what should I do within these days?
Should I do NBME 4 or retake UW?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Houranis,

I know exactly how do you feel ... because I had the same problem with NBMEs and UWSA where I got 219 as well ... so, I would suggest you to postpone your exam, at least 2-3 weeks and renew UW or may be take Kaplan Qbank, and only then take NBME 4.

What I did? I postponed CK .... took Kaplan QBAnk and now doing UW again ... going to take NBME very soon (may by on this week).

219 it is not enough for CK nowadays; we need to have higher score like 230-240 and only then sit for the exam.

May God bless you and take care.

Thanks for reply.
The problem that my exam period is 10-11-12, and I have a plane to catch on Jan 2nd.
My problem that sometimes I got distracted and don't focus on the details on some questions, I missed 10 question in NBME due to that.
And I heard the exam will be different in 2014 (more epidemiology and biostatistics questions and other changes, check link below), that's why I want to do it before 2014.

Changes in 2014:

Hi Houranis,
I am in the same boat . My exam is in a week and my eligibility will be finished by the end of December. My NBMEs were fluctuating from 217 to 242. Today, I did NBME 4= 217! and I was totally shocked by the results (still I am!), but decided to postpone the exam and do UW one more time. Probably I do Kaplan Qbank as well.
Good luck with your exam

If I postpone the exam for one week, what should I do next?
Do UW self again and NBME 4?
Because I have nothing more to study or read.

I think you should work on your weaknesses. If your time management is the problem work on question banks, if your knowledge is not enough for the test review all the chapters again and again. That's what I am going to do myself.
Best of luck.

I did NBME 4, I almost cry, I was scared and so stressed while I'm doing it, it was harder than UW and NBME 6, I only got 200, very bad.
I postponed my exam for another week initially.
My weakness that sometimes I cannot understand the question and what they want, and I get tricked with some information provided in question, and also I'm bad at preventive and ethics questions.

What do you suggest me to do?

So appreciated.

I know exactly how you felt. I had the same feeling while doing NBME 4. Can you postpone the exam for more than a week? what is your target score?
For ethics and preventive I do have the same problem and I don't know what to suggest, but I will read more and more MTB and kaplan notes at least for the preventive medicine.
For the tricky questions, I think it can be overcome by doing more and more questions, UW one more time and kaplan Qbank. Also an important part of this tricky questions is you skip the whole question stem and read the last sentence then get back to the details and always try to consider the most important clues to make the diagnosis not every clues you have. and another point is by preparing more and more, you could guess more easily what exactly they wanted to ask.
in Summery, it would be best if you can postpone it at least for a month, try to calm down and do more and more questions, and at the same time review MTB 2.
Good Luck!

I can postpone, but I have request period extension and delay my flight which is two days after the exam, so I have to rearrange everything.
But it's hard to postpone one month, I will forget everything I read, if I want to postpone, I'd do it for 1-2 weeks only.
I feel I'm ready, but these NBME self assessment tests crashed me, although I solved over 75%, but the score curve is high in NBME, that's why I got low score.
I want to score >230.
Right now I'm reading a lot of MCQs.

Just to keep you updated.
I finally took my exam on Dec 31st, and my result is assumed to be in next Wed, I felt I did pretty good in the exam better than NBME and UW, but you know USMLE scores are unpredictable.
I didn't want it to postpone in 2014 due to new changes, and I felt I was ready, so I regret nothing even if I got a low score.
I hope I will get > 235.

I'm so worried and having nightmares about the result, so wish me luck.

Did you take the exam yet?
