Default How i got 250 in ck

Hey!
So i got my result afew days back and scored 250 in ck. Honestly,i was a bit surprised, was expecting to score lower than what i actually did. so here is how i did my preparation.
Total prep time: 7 months. (i didnt study everyday in these 7 months. I take looong breaks in which i dont study at all. thats how i have always been
I did kaplan lecture notes thrice for IM & surgery. 4 times for paeds and obgyn. and step 2 psych just once. Didnt do any of the video lectures. Frankly, now that i am done with the exam,i dont think it was worth the effort. Two reads are enough.
I didnt do kaplan q bank either.
Uworld q bank score-75%.
I just did it once. And read the 'educational objective' of the 1st 30 blocks or so again. I can not stress enough how important uworld is for the exam. I suggest you do it twice if you have time.
Did MTB 2 twice after uworld.
UWSA 5 days before the exam-263.
Didnt do any of the NBMEs or the FREE 150. Didnt do them for the step 1 either.
And yes! The exam was pretty tough.
Hope my experience helps you to get a good score.
All the best!

Default Congrats!

Congratulations man, thats an excellent score!

So UWorld was a crucial part of your prep, but what is your opinion on MTB 2ck?

I like how smooth you're preparation went, but how did you make the most of uworld?

did you take notes and read them again (the notes) like most people do?

or did you just read the explanations and the educational objective and move on so you could finish quickly?

because i find taking notes and then going with uworld in timed tutor mode very time consuming????

MTB 2 is nothing like what first aid is for step 1. But it does give you some key/buzz words and most common wrong answers of commonly tested topics. And then there are best initial/most accurate step qs. that you only get from doing MTB. So it did help, but not as much as uworld. Hope i answered your query.

Ok.This is how i did uworld. I always did 2 blocks per day. Spent atleast 7 hours per block (including 1 hour it takes to solve the block). I tried to memorize as much as i could but you simply cant retain all of it. So i copied down the most important info with the relevant topic on mtb. For eg if i find a useful chart on the management of pulmonary embolism,i copied it down with the page where PE is given on MTB. This way i revised it when i was doing mtb post uworld.
I re did the explanations of all the wrong qzs plus educational objective of first 30 blocks. Thats when the subscription expired.
I cant comment on the timed tutor as i have never explored that mode.
Hope that helped.

Hi,
you start from asking a friend who has already given the exams. As good as his site is,it only helps after a certain understanding of usmle examinations. So i suggest you look for a pal who has been thorough it all. uworld or uw is an online qbank, and uwsa is a self assessment test on the same software. Sorry brother, never ordered the books myself so cant help you there.
All the best!

Thanks for the reply.
I understand MTB 2ck is not a all in one comprehensive book like first aid was for step 1.
Like you said it does give the best initial test and best next step and stuff like how to manage the pt. So basically I'm wondering what kind of info does it leave out that I should be trying to get from other sources?

Thanks again.
