Question How did you finish CK prep in only 4 months

Just an important question that keeps haunting me.

HOW IN THE WORLD can anybody finish the CK in 4 months or less & get 99 ??????.
I'm working on CK myself now & I'm telling you guys, it's no picnic, there are a lot of stuff to memorize, a lot of lab values & other stuff that just takes a long time just to read, not memorize, just read plus the videos, C'mon 4 months, really?

Besides, I have offline UW questions, so after I'm done with a system in IM for example the Cardiovascular, I study the offline question of the Cardio which are over 130 questions, I realized that the questions are totally different from the stuff mentioned in Kaplan & First Aid, a lot of stuff are not even mentioned in the notes & asked about in UW.

So, please somebody answer me this, WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? CAUSE TO ME IT LOOKS LIKE THE INTERNAL MEDICINE ALONE IS GONNA TAKE 4 MONTHS

Actually I haven't, but you know what? I don't think that's the problem, cause so far after watching the videos & reading Kaplan I didn't really have much trouble with the pathophysiology nor the related pharmacology. Everything is going smooth, the thing is the whole process is time-consuming, I think even if you're done with step 1.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, do I skip the videos? not read First Aid? just read Kaplan without stopping on each single piece of information? don't memorize everything? or count totally on the UW questions & hope that it will cover everything that I face in the real exam?

I'm lost.

Arrow Agree with mahganem

I agree with mahganem,

Those who have taken Step 1 will not need to read First Aid, will not need to go over the videos, will not need to refresh their pathophysiology, pharmacology, ..etc, and will go really faster than you in reading Kaplan.

What you are doing is absolutely right. Don't skip anything. Because you did not take Step 1, you have to build the basic knowledge necessary for the CK and by no means you'll finish in 4 months.

I agree with mahganem and Sabio.

I think it makes a difference if you've sat for Step 1, as from what I've been seeing in the qbanks, as much as 50% of the content is actually Step 1 stuff but presented in a different way. The rest, which is the tricky part, is the specific management, in the context of "what is the best next step to take?" form. Besides, answering Step 2 CK questions is a bit instinctual, in that most of the time there are no rigid criteria to follow. For example, if a patient appears to be in shock, usually an emergent action should be taken. If he/she appears to be stable, usually all you need to do is conservative stuff or at least less aggressive management.

Anyway, don't get discouraged, and take your time. My friend who had 87 on Step 1 has recently got 95 on Step 2 CK. It's much easier to score higher in CK.

Nobody can predict if you can get 99 or not, or how long you would need to achieve that. But taking Step 2 CK before 1 is not a hindrance to getting this score. People have done it before.
