Default those who did their exam , what do you think?

i hope everyone did the exam can give us a help in this

after you got to the exam , what would you change in your study if you have to come back to study again ? what things will you do more or do it differently?
in step one everybody said that the exam was typically from uworld and that is what i found , what about step 2 , is it as in step 1 has the same concepts of uworld , or NBMES and to which one is it closer ?

WELL the things i will change , i guess i will concentrate more on UW , stop worrying about drug ads and abstract questions ,,,
i will try to have an organized schemes for the common cases like those provided in UW e.g. PE or in cases of abdominal trauma ......

for me the exam was lengthy and i was just competing with time , it is not typical UW but the same concepts most of the exam , sure there are some experimental questions but not much .....

NBME is way different from the exam , i guess much easier but some how they again can predict to you the outcome not precisely as in step 1

try to be calm, organized , train yourself to think and solve questions fast

that is my advice

I agree with what the others have said. I took my exam on the 28th and even though it wasn't incredibly difficult, you are competing with time. I missed a question because I ran out of time on one block. Don't spend too much time on the abstracts or drug ads, or leave it for the end.

Good Luck!

See my other post, but main points:
-uworld covers most things
-change your uworld font size from normal to medium to simulate the exam (this does actually make a difference, people think the questions are longer when in reality its just the text is larger and fills more screen)
-know the biostats from FA step 1
-leave drug ads and abstracts to the end
-be prepared to have a lot of 50:50 questions
-know how to differentiate adjustment vs major dep vs anxiety disorders etc etc
-try and sleep the night before

I want to know....Is solving uworld a second time an absolute essential thing? I mean how about we just redo the marked and incorrect ones? and review the notes we've taken from uworld? Cuz reviewing all the material is more imp just before the exam right? and that takes a lot of time. Can we just stick to the marked and incorrect ones for a second go?

I did only the marked questions the second time, I had marked about 40% of the questions. Also took a print out of the notes and reviewed it the day before the exam. I think it helped a lot.

It was long and mentally exhausting, the questions that were hard and needed a lot of time were the drug ads and abstracts. The others were mostly 50:50. Just remember to manage your time well. I'll know next week how I did. At the moment I honestly don't have a clue.

I hear you. I can totally imagine feeling the same. I suck at time management, will invest these last days of prep into working on that. thanks and good luck for your result. dont worry...you did your best and i'm sure it will pay off!

Hey guys! Thanks for all the tips! I just began my prep for CK today, doing Kaplan LN and Master the boards 2. Will do kaplan Q book and 2 months before test (june 2014) USMLE world. I've seen a lot of people using Master the boards 3, why? Also some recommend watching kaplan videos for CK, does anyone knows where to download them from? Will videos really help? Thank you! GOOD LUCK IN YOUR PREP and for those waiting their scores!

ppl suggest using MTB 3 because MTB2 seemed lacking in some subjects. most ppl suggest (as i have noticed from this forum) using MTB2 for IM and MTB3 for rest of the topics, +/- KLN, videos. some study statistics and psych from FA step 1.
i am hoping to do test in june too

Drug Ads are basically what the name implies Advertisements. You gonna have a pictures of some new drug and some info about it and research to why this drug is good , side effects...you know what you usually have. And then you gonna have 2-3 Q's about it. They are pretty straight forward.

Abstracts, on the other hand, are not that easy. They are basically summery of some research data. They are extremely long...like 2 pages long. And the same they gonna have like 2-3 Q's on it. But much much harder to analyze all the data in such short time. That is why ALWAYS leave them for last.!!!
GOOD LUCK
