Default 261 CK experience

hey guys! here is my experience....
I was working the entire time (full time) and i do believe it kind of helped me get some points on the test.
Prep time 4 months
i started in oct 3-4 hours each day with Kaplan(2011-2012ed) lecture notes.... Did not have time for videos so skipped them(happily so).
after one read of KLN i went through MTB 2 for IM and MTB 3 for others including PSY and ETHICS(very fishing imp).
I followed that up with UWORLD---- cannot skip that!
was scoring 80% cumulative timed mode
took NBME 4 3 weeks before exam day-265, USWA 1 week before-260, NBME6 263 2 days before the exam....
The real deal was way different than i had expected---- it had a lot of confusing choices and topics i never expected to be asked.... the only thing that helps is to work your way through the option choices (worked for me).... the only other thing that is going to bother you is TIME... the questions are long so practice the speed.
the exam was a mix of questions but heavy on PSY, ethics, peds, obgyn.....

any questions you guys have feel free to ask
i hope this review helps some one score even more... that would make me very happy
caio

Congrats man!! In retrospective, do you think Kaplans were useful? Do you think MTBs 2 and 3 are enough and I can safely skip Kaplans?
Last question, how many passes of UW?

Thank you, congratulations and most of all, love the spirit man!!
I have a question, I took step 1 4 months ago and I'm beginning to forget the finer details. Do you think it would be worth the while to do a quick read of FA for step 1? especially path, path slides?
thanks in advance!
you will always be blessed for your kindness and selflessness.

thanks Rochelle, definitely read basic stuff from FA eg gram positive/negative bacterias or path slides but frankly the finer details were not required but basic knowledge is a must.

1. no experience with Kaplan q bank
2.first aid not enough for PSY KLN PSY for step 2 (still not enough, the questions do tend to go beyond the scope of these LN and Uworld)
3.i did not get many pictures, the ones i did get were mixed in terms of level of difficulty.

this is what I did for PSY-- KLN PSY notes twice and MTB 2 and 3 PSY twice....
the reason i say that its not enough is that they test certain concepts that i had learnt as a student during PSY rotations which you may find in text books but not in guide books like KLN... I guess you do have to take a risk somewhere

as far as biostats goes its more or less step 1 equivalent and barely tested(except for studies/abstracts).. I can understand your worries on Drug ads and abstracts... I went through the same thing. this is what I followed and helped me:
1. Uworld drug ads are sufficient
2. watch the drug ads on TV (this may sound funny but what lands up on the test is something very similar to that)
3. for abstracts you can use uworld but i could not deal with the abstracts I got on the test with that knowledge and had to take an educated guess in the end... remember not to waste time on abstracts cause you may end up losing more than what you gain from the abstracts....
hope this helps and keep the questions coming... Im always happy to help

Hey Aman Congratulations !!! 261 is awesome

1) I have 2009 notes for ck. Are 2011-2012 notes any different ? Will it matter ? giving my exam soon.

2) There have been many topics where management guidelines are different in Kaplan comp to UW.. Eg approach to abnormal pap smears

what did u do ?

3) gynecology malignancies have not been covered well in UW ? From where did u do ?

4) Did u revise UW notes ? / revise UW again ?

Thanks for your help.

Good luck.
