Smile Brain Death

Hello Folks,
So how s prep going. Lets make it a practice of posting here something importance and easy forgettable on daily basis. Lets support each other and get through this exam.

For today, its brain death criteria:

The clinical evaluation (neurologic assessment).

A. Coma.

Patients must lack all evidence of responsiveness. Eye opening or eye movement to noxious stimuli is absent. Noxious stimuli should not produce a motor response other than spinally mediated reflexes. The clinical differentiation of spinal responses from retained motor responses associated with

B. Absence of brainstem reflexes.

Absence of pupillary response to a bright light is documented in both eyes.
Absence of ocular movements using oculocephalic testing and oculovestibular reflex testing. Movement of the eyes should be absent during 1 minute of observation. Both sides are tested, with an interval of several minutes.
Absence of corneal reflex. Absent corneal reflex is demonstrated by touching the cornea with a piece of tissue paper, a cotton swab, or squirts of water. No eyelid movement should be seen.
Absence of facial muscle movement to anoxious stimulus.
Absence of the pharyngeal and tracheal reflexes. The pharyngeal or gag reflex is tested after stimulation of the posterior pharynx with a tongue blade or suction device. The tracheal reflex is most reliably tested by examining the cough response to tracheal suctioning. The catheter should be inserted into the trachea and advanced to the level of the carina followed by 1 or 2 suctioning passes.
C. Apnea Test

Absence of a Respiratory Drive.
Absence of a breathing drive is tested with a CO2 challenge. Documentation of an increase in PaCO2 above normal levels is typical practice. It requires preparation before the test.

Hello Drs,
I am going to start Uworld next week,my exam is on june 2.
almost done with MTBs. Can anyone please tell me if I would be able to complete Uworld in 1 month? I was able to complete Uworld step1 in 40 days, for step2 I have less time so kept only 30 days for it.

I know the question stems are long but are the xplanations also very lengthy in Uworld????
and also, please tell me the total no. of questions in uworld.

please reply
Thanks

Count me in!
I am starting uworld in 14 days...currently finishing mtbz and kapz ...
My exam is in the first week of June as well.
I think if you do 2 blocks per day you can finish it in 20 days... There are aroundish 40 blocks...

I will start posting from tomorrow, and will post even more when I start uworld..

Default Which nbme?

I intend to take ck in another ten days. Which nbme should i take now? 6 or 4 ? Or Uw sat? There are a few people who said that nbme overestimates for ck and that uw sat is more accurate. Is that so?

Gave the exam today guys. I had an experience of horrible luck in the fact that I Cudnt sleep a minute at night. In the morning I even contemplated on cancelling my exAm but it wasn't an option and I would have gotten marked absent so I prayed and took it.*
First couple blocks went pretty bad because of the fact that I Cudnt focus. Made very silly mistakes. From third on I gained back my focus. And thank God I was focused till the end. But now I m not expecting any high end score. I got 258 in Uwsa so I was pretty confident one day before. But all my hard work went down the drain cuz I Cudnt sleep. But I hope I do get a reasonable score. Please remember in prayers.*

Lol that's the funny part I even took a pill although it was just an antihistamine. I should have taken an anxiolytic. Yeah u can take a pill but just make sure u take early like around 10 and also make sure that u try it a couple times before the exam day so that u would know which dosage is for u since we don't want u to have drowsiness in the morning because of it. And yes only prayers and God can save me now. All I know is the I did work hard but somethings are just not under your control.

hmm yaa i can understand man... its the subconcious mind that drives us crazy... i tried so hard to fall asleep at the time of step 1 and expecting the same in Ck...
well, just relax now, get the next date and get up very early the day before exam, so that u'll be tired and sleepy by 11pm..and try sleep early now like at 10:30 or 11 so that ur barin will get used to it for whatever days left in ck..

Omg is something wrong with diphenhydramine these days! No wonder mere 25mg didn't work on me haha. But how did u cancel it? We didn't have this option in Asia of canceling within 24 hours of exam day I would have gotten marked absent and had to repay 1000 dollar fee. So I didn't have this option. But u made the right decision. 100 mg is way too much.*

If you change your appointment 5 or fewer days before (but not including) the first day of your scheduled test date, the fee is $124.00 USD for domestic U.S.A. and Canada, $302.00 USD for International Zone 1, $342.00 for International Zone 2, or $552.00 USD for International Zone 3.

Isn't this common for everybody? This Is the email we get from prometric.
