Default Old graduate mom scored 263 on CK

Well, I was studying for 5 months, 4-5 h / day. KLN once, MTB for step 2 twice, and MTB for step 3 , everything but internal medicine once. KLN and MTB 3 are very alike, while MTB 2 have some additional informations. These books are ok, but do not cover everything. UW once, and 80 % second time, timed, unused, subject wise. It was tougher than UW for Step 1. Kaplan q bank around 30 %, random, timed, but I do not think it's high yield. UWSA 265, 17 wrong, 2 weeks prior the exam, FredV2 92 % one day before.
Exam is tough, questions are long, time yourselves well. My suggestion is to leave ads and abstracts for the end, to read questions thoroughly, and to go after the sense in your gut.
Exam appears harder than Step 1, but it seems like everybody end up with better score
Good Luck, everybody!

No NBMEs. Questions in UWSA are much shorter, but are similar in that they are vague. UWSA is a good predictor.

Big cong on your awesome score!!!!

How did you read/use KLNs? I am using KLNs and MTB2 and MTB3 as my reference books. Finished UW with a 70% (second time). Right now doing Kaplan qbank and USMLE rx. I am feeling that I keep picking up new information everytime I do the qbanks but also keep forgetting things alongside. Seems that I never thoroughly and solidly know the information since there are tons of them. Do you have any suggestions about how efficiently grasp the concept? For concepts tested in the questions I can learn them from practicing. For concepts not being embedded in the questions but mentioned in the books, it seems really hard to truly master them due to the lack of application. Did you have the similar feeling? If so, how you deal with the situation?

Popped up so many inquires. Thanks a lot for your advice!

I focused on KLN, MTB and UW. I think that's enough for concepts. But, for sure, it seemed much harder to remember concepts, comparing to Step 1, and I was more frustrated with this than I was during Step 1 preparation.

I agree. Step 1 requires lots of memorization with those facts, slightly different with Ck, which put more emphasis on manipulating the information and applying correctly. But the two definitely share some commons as if you don't know the details in your mind you have no idea of what to choose in the answer choices. From 18 blocks I have done so far with Kaplan qbank, on average, for each block about 15 questions I got wrong, and 4-5 of them are due to I have no idea of the point tested in them. The rest around 5-6 questions are because I remember the information but not with crystal clear, I picked them due to I had some feeling towards them. For the last 4-5 questions, usually I know the diagnosis, but they tested one step deeper about the disease, and I couldn't decide which one was better to choose since I already narrowed down the choices to two. Right now, I am stuck in the process.. I mean I am in the bottleneck and my performance is not improving. Do you think I need to be stick to KLNs instead of MTBs? Or I can try to watch some ck videos to enhance my understanding of the knowledge, say Kaplan High-yield videos?

If these are Conrad's videos, I would say go for it. He shoots right to the point.

They are longer, but the feeling is the same as with first pass of UW, maybe you even find them easier. There's a lot of labs too.

Congrats! You did it again! May I know what was your cumulative in Uworld? Also, did the exam have a lot of obscure Preventive medicine topics, or any other subject which one should particularly focus on for the last few days? Thanks

Congrats!!! If I remember well, this is a big jump from step 1. I have two questions:
1) Do you think reading MTB 2 and 3 multiple times completely cover Kaplans? Do Kaplan still have additional information than MTBs?

2) What is your reading speed? how many pages per day? Another sub-question, do you memorize like step 1 or just understand the context? You know, in step 1 you need to memorize word by word

78% first pass, 92% second.
Revise your weakest subjects. There were no obscure preventive med q. But, as I already wrote, leave ads for the end and revise formulas from FA for Step 1

They were so and so, but I spent the least time on psych preparation. I suggest KLN, they are really good, and I don't think q go beyond KLN and UW.

As for 1) yea, I'm not sure, but I think that combination of MTB 2+3 for all subjects might be good enough.
I am slow and thorough reader. About 20-25 pages of MTB second read. This is why I went through it only 2 times. Less memorization than with Step 1.

Audio questions weren't hard, but images were. I was using Google for images, for every dx I thought I could find CT, US, XR

That was my weak area too I had about 4 abstracts, and maybe 5 or 6 ads. I was frightened with this fact, but it turned out just fine.
