Default esophageal rupture

what are the things that cause esophageal rupture ? is there any other reasons other than medical instrumentation and vomiting ? can pill esophagitis ,esophageal ulcer, infectious ulcer cause it and what is the mechanism?

Hi hydrocephalus,

Another known cause are ingestion of caustic liquids and trauma.

Not sure about the others that you mentioned (pill esophagitis, esoph ulcer, infectious ulcer). IMO anything that erode the mucosa could cause perforation. My guess for that to happen, the patient would have neglected the symptoms for quite some time, which would be unlikely given the very disturbing odinophagia unless perhaps in person with limited access to health care.

op! I check emedicine, those above causes is a minority cause of esoph rupture, only 1% of cases.
