Question Uw question

Hi maybe this is a stupid question, but I can't figure it out.
UW q 3265: why is v.parahaemolyticus and not v. cholera? how do we distinguish the two?

i dont have the bank anymore but doesnt UWorld explain that?

V parahemolitycus is in fish food.

While Vcholerae is usually seen in endemic areas, someone went to mexico or something like that.

You will rarely see V.P. without including food, if ever.

Wierd but it doesn't explain why not v. cholerae.... I though the transmission of vibrio was through raw seafood too, with watery diarrhea as symptom.

Vibrio vulnificus and parahaemolyticus are more associated with seafood and shellfish (undercooked or raw oysters) than Vibrio cholera..

Vibro cholera is mostly found in brackish water/ponds (reservoir) and is contracted mainly by drinking contaminated water.. however a small % have been found in fish and seafood.
