Default took CK yesterday. Exam day experience

Hey Guys...this is my first post. I've been reading this forum on and off for my preparations for CK and for step 1 in the past. So here's my input in regards to the exam. I went into the exam worried after reading all the posts on this forum, and others, about how impossible the test is, and how LONG the question stems are. So although, I did utilize every last minute of my time, it was only to make sure I was reading all the questions thoroughly and not making silly mistakes. I would say Uworld is a good indication of how the question stems are--they aren't longer or shorter. Another good indication is the free 150 questions that the usmle releases.
Ok so although I can't say too much, since I haven't received my score--I just wanted to let anyone that's reading this know, that it isn't a nightmare, like it's made out to be. The exam is do-able, of course there's some questions that have 2 answer choices you will struggle with. But it is the USMLE after all. I thought biostats and the abstracts were the most challenging part of my exam, but that was probably due to my ill preparation of that subject. There were a few derm pictures that I wish I would have looked over---and maybe about 4 EKGs and 2 heart sounds. I was tested heavily on ob/gyn, psych, and preventive medicine. If anyone has any questions I'd be happy to give advice, as I know how stressful studying for this exam is!

thank you for your experience , how was the ECG was it difficult or you can answer the question with no need to look at the ecg (as what i see in uworld questions ) , and the same thing for heart sounds?

I never understood the abstracts even while I was studying---I blindly guessed on the exam because I found them to be too time consuming and took away from time I could spend on questions I could actually get right. I'd recommend just going over the ones on UWORLD. As far as your timing is concerned---I'd review the NBME questions and also go over the uworld assessment. I found that a lot of the same concepts appear on the exam so its worth really understanding those questions. I'd also take the free 150---because the questions are worded similar to that. Good luck!

Aaah such a relief....difficulty is expected as it is USMLE but its really good to hear that its Do-Able

Can you please tell me if the TYPE of questioning is similar to Uworld? or are the questions more in-depth or indirect than Uworld?

can you please tell me,How much extra info is there in Uworld compared to MTBs(2+3)..I have to do uworld yet

Thankssssssssssssss

Hey--I was able to figure out the ECG off of the stem--but just know the basics like a fib, heart blocks etc. The same goes for the heart sounds--I was able to get a general idea of what they were probably trying to get at. So don't really stress about those

I found the questions to be very straight forward--the questions were worded easier than the NBME's, however the answer choices sometimes were tricky. The material can all be found in UWORLD--so if you are familiar with that the exam shouldn't be soo bad. Maybe review some derm pictures and genetics as I had some of those on my exam too

I think so--I personally found myself forgetting a lot of small details from uworld because I did it over a period of three months, so it's probably better to keep your date (as long as you are scoring well on practice exams)---and take the exam with uworld being completely fresh in your mind. Good luck!!

Hi ...

I would like to know is it possible to do Ob/Gyn, Peds, Psych & Surgery only from MTB3 and UW? Are these sources enough?

Sorry I just learnt them from uworld, as far as they go its essentially the basics-- subdural, epidural hemorrhage
Brain lesions like toxoplasmosis etc, I didnt have a lot of images on my exam and if i did the question stem gave enough clues

My exact same feeling.

The exam was doable, the questions were long but certainly not impossible and i often had plenty of time to recheck and i read most questions twice at least.

The abstracs were impossible, one in particularly used concepts i had never seen before in my life. So i just guessed.

The exam was a lot like the free 150 and sometimes i even felt i was doing just another uworld block.

There were a few stumpers but nothing out of the ordinary (this is after all a high level medical examination) .

Just relax guys, and trust yourselves!

I took my test on Wednesday so ill guess i see you in the exam results thread for the 21st?

I took it Wednesday as well. Initially leaving the exam, and during--I felt pretty good about it. I thought on step 1 I had more absurd questions--so in comparison to that, I thought the questions were more clear for CK. The 3 week wait is now the struggle! My brain was in a fog after I left the exam and now I'm haunted by questions that keep popping up that I got wrong--anyways good luck!! glad I wasn't the only one who felt the abstracts were tough

For preventive I used official USPTF website guidelines. There were few very important additions which I didn't find anywhere else. It's time consuming but worth it and I did it when somebody suggested on this forum.

I did usmle ck 3 days ago. I felt horrible after the exam. My uwsa score was 221 five weeks before exam. Did not do any nbme. I did kaplan sim test (8 blocks) and i got the average of 72 percent ( do not have score correlation). I used uw, kaplan qbank and usmleconsult as primary source of study. I read secrets 4 times. Let us pray we all get good score
