Surgery Postoperative Fever Question!

A 64-year-old man who had the undergone the operation of appendicectomy 24 hours ago is reported to have a temperature of 38C. The operation site is not inflamed and there is no unusual abdominal tenderness or mass. The dome of the left diaphragm is elevated.

Which one of the following is the most likely cause?
A. Deep venous thrombosis
B. Haematoma in the bed of the appendix
C. Pelvic abscess
D. Perforated bowel
E. Basal atelectasis

awesome! so u guys chose E based on tht 5 W's rule?

the 5 Ws tht go wrong post op based on duration:
1. wind-atelectasis
2. water-UTI
3. walking-thrombophlebitis
4. wound-infection
5. wonder drugs-drug reaction

So atelectasis is most common in the first 24 hours post op. What about the other post op complications/causes of fever. What time period would you expect those?

I thought that atelectasis has never been proven to actually cause fever?

Whether it does or not, it appears it's acceptable as a test answer?
