Star Done with CK today. Exam day experience.

Hi people.
I took my ck today and i feel like i have failed it. Yeah, yeah i know its normal to feel like this was and even in step 1 i managed a 243 after messing up my exam. But one thing that didnt happen in step 1 was that i didnt leave any question unmarked. But CK was a whole different story. I have 4 unmarked question to haunt me till my result day and godforbid i get a bad score then they will haunt me for life!!
My exam was long. In the first block I faced a serious time shortage. I had 10 question left in last 10 minutes and the 41st question was a drug ad. In the last question I had something like 40 seconds left. I knew what was the answer and the second i was going to click , boom!! Block over. The same thing happened in two more blocks.
The questions were so damn long!! They didnt tested obscure things like natalizumab causes PML, so dont stress over it. They tested familiar things in a very twisted devilish way. In my skin questions , two questions had 20 options!! I couldnt believe my eyes, they had freaking listed every skin disease.
CK will definitely favour those who are taking it right after step 1. I took step while I was in 4th year of med school, 2 years back and that was a big disadvantage. They are asking step 1 concepts ( dont pm me asking for specifics , i dont want to remember). They asked pedigree analysis and I had to figure out what does a circle and square means!! They asked anatomy, they asked muscle innervations, they asked histopatholigical description of some skin condition. So basically, if you can skim your step 1 FA , do that. I couldnt , and i may pay a price for that.
There were 5 drug ads and abstracts in total i guess and they are vague. Around 4 heart sounds and lots of radiology.
Are the MTBs adequate. No i don't think so. But they are the only source we have. I would say, stick with UW, the concepts are similar but the questions are much much longer. The minimum questions in a block were 42 and maximum was 44.
One more tip that i can give and that I applied in later blocks is that when you start a block look on your left side to the list of questions. There will be coupled questions encased in a rectangle. Click them as they will be most probably drug ads or abstracts. Hit them first cz you really wont get much time to do later. I did the same and it paid off.
Right now I am really hating step 2 ck. In step 1 the questions are much clearer. Here everything is so damn vague and the patients literally have every disease and risk factors on earth and you have to process that information real fast.
Waiting for the result for now and will prep up for my CS which is in a month. If guys have any questions , ask it here.
Best of luck to all of you

NBME 2 - 240

Hey...Congrats on being done! Since, you took nbme 7...Would you recommend taking it, as my exam is in 2 weeks. Did you find ck similar to nbme 7 or the older nbmes? Thanks in advance!

take nbme 7, some concepts from nbme 7 were directly tested in real exam

i completely agree with your exam experience. i felt like i was at the VA hospital-everyone had everything wrong with them and it was down to 2 answers. crazy crazy crazy. i told my friend who is taking it in a week it's as if none of the ck resources we use helped!!!! i walked out praying that i had passed.

I also took my exam today and completely agree with your experience and i have exactly the same stats as you have.step 1 244 and uwsa 248. and i applied that looking at the squares right from the start and it saved me from alot of trouble.and yeah questions were vague.in few cases best way was to exclude options.moreover uworld is the key and doing step 1 first aid before the exam comes in real handy.

Default So i just gave my exam yesterday and i feel horrible.

I am glad to see this post because that is how i feel right now myself too , guess i am not alone. i gave the exam yesterday and i feel so stressed right now , i have no clue how i performed in the exam , no clue at all. i was not sure about every 2nd or 3rd answer and a lot of times just had to go with either one of two confusing options just to stay on the time track . Time was too little to even think properly , if you get the question in first read then u get it , otherwise u r doomed , just do a double check with quick read & make some sense out of the question & answer it and just move on to next question . i managed timed this way without freaking out , but in sooo many questions i had no clear clue about what to choose and why , mainly due to this time constraint , also due to difficulty of those questions. i am sorry i cannot discuss the content of the exam since it is not allowed to discuss that , but it was very tough , waaay more then nbme 4 and uwsa. Stems were long in many questions and abstracts were quite tough. i would advise to attempt abstracts at the end of block and at least save 10 mins for it otherwise you wont be able to make sense out of it , i wasnt. As for my self assessments i scored , nbme 4 = 263 (10 days before exam) , uwsa = 259 (2 days before exam) , but these are not accurate so don't rely on them like in my case , this exam for me at least was very stressful , anxiety ridden and distressing experience. i used almost all major resources and i think uworld concepts were closest to exam but so many things you will encounter you would have no clue about . Feeling low after so many months or hard prep

i gave my CK yesterday as well. and agree to all the above!!! 100%

about abstracts: i left them in the end and i am glad i did that. at one time i had 5 minutes left to do the abstract and even then i am not sure whether i got the abstract right. so the trick to solving abstracts is to leave them in the end and try only if you have time.

the trauma, ortho and General surgery ER rotations were very helpful regarding the exam.

for step2ck: Uworld is the new first aid!!!

do pray for everyone, hope we get through this

Is reading FA for Step1 important for CK?

hey,

i did had a couple of step1 questions in the exam, but those did not require reading FAstep1. for this exam you already need a lot to stuff in + build stamina + focus. in my opinion reading step1 wont fetch much points.

FYI what i mentioned above was an analogy: what FAstep1 is to real step1.........uworld is to real step2.....

but chill out, i definitely think they do something with the percentiles and stuff,,,because step1 was definitely easier than the step2 and i cannot imagine even in my wildest dreams that average for step2 is 10 points higher than step1...
