Default Hypoxia-Uworld explanation

Uworld says that- hypoxia in cases of pneumonia is caused due to alveolar and interstitial inflammation that increases A-a gradient( V/Q mismatch) and not due to Alveolar hypoventilaton. Can anyone please explain the difference btw the 2?

Thanks much!
