Default TO REVIEW or NOT before NBME - PLEASE Advice !!!

I have completed first run of UW & want to take an NBME to see where I stand. Will do a second run of UW as well.

1) Is there a particular NBME I should take since its my first assessment ? I have read some random posts that mentioned that the NBME's are best taken in a specific order . Please advice.

2) More importantly - should I do a quick review before taking the NBME ? I would really appreciate your advice & suggestions on this. :notsure:

I have read KLN & MTB .I haven't taken notes from UW but marked / highlighted the important info.

Thank you .

Since this is ur first assessment, Id say go ahead n take the nbme. Ull know exactly wat subjects ur weak at and then u can review those from MTB or KLN.

Make sure u take one with extended feedback. (My 1st assessment was NBME6)

I am finding NBME s for CK a little vague. CAn you please compare it with the real exam. Do we have such questions in real exam too??

How much would be a good score to feel ready for the exam ??

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

I would say its not similar at all. Q's on NBME i think easier. If u have time and money the its good practice.
I guess 250s is good score. Because the curve is very nice on NBME in CK
UW is the closest i think. SO practice that very good.

How was CS....Im scared of CS

Thanks for the prompt reply!

Just be yourself in CS and show your confidence in dealing with the patient. I guess making the patient happpy is the key to this exam. For patient notes section, you can definitely practice using the software available online.

BTW I am not scoring in 250s in Nbme its 230s only so will it be good to go for the exam ? Also I am planning to take Usim to know better about my preparation.

Well that depends on ur target score. I would say if u aim 250+ u should have on NBME and UWSA 250+

Did u pass CS? Was FA enough for the cases on exam? How was time? And aloso which and specific mneumonic u used?

Thankfully Yes I am done with it. Yes FA was enough. Time management is not a problem if you are thorough with cases. MY SP had some mneumonics which we used. I am not very good at it. But writing all the dd before going inside really helps.

Yes I am aiming 250+ But my problem is I ahve just read MTBs Kaplan only for surgery n Peds. Can this fetch me 250. On my first nbme I scored 225 ?

well that depends.
U know for Step 1 the key was FA and reading it again and again and memorizing bunch of little details.
Step 2, is u have to know diseases and syndromes. Most of them u know from step 1. And then practice and practice the approach in Dif. cases.
IMO if u have a good base knowledge, MTB2/3 and kaplan for Obgyn/surgery/ped. is GOOD
I read Kaplan ObGyn, made sure i understand most of it and then switched to MTB 3 ,cuz it was much shorter to review. U can review the whole subject in 1 hr.
I didnt understand be4 what people ment that UW is the key. NOW I DO!
I had MANY similar Q's on exam. I even thought couple of times like 'wow i think i say same Q on UW"
But there gonna be many Q's that u gonna be like WTF is this? And thats where u can only apply ur knowlege!!!
I hope that answered your Question
Good luck

Sorry for sounding vague.
What I meant to ask is if you reviewed anything specifically before each NBME . For example, some folks review MTB and /or UW notes before taking any assessment test . Others don't .
Did you review or you didn't ?
