Heart Appropriate Cholestrol Goal; ATP 3 Quidelines

A 65-year-old man with a history of hypertension, smoking, and benign prostatic hyperplasia is seen in the clinic for general follow up. His medications include atenolol, terazosin, and aspirin. He has no family history of premature coronary disease. His vital signs are: temperature 37.0 C (98.6 F), blood pressure 130/80 mm Hg, pulse 64/min, and respirations 16/min. His physical examination is non focal. You order fasting lipids for screening, which show:


Which of the following is the appropriate cholesterol goal for this patient?
A. LDL <100 mg/dL
B. LDL <130 mg/dL
C. LDL <160 mg/dL
D. LDL <200 mg/dL
E. Total cholesterol <209 mg/dL

Which drug to start for this Lipid profile!

I would say 130! He is in group-2.

that was the right answer.....exactly
but i am buzzled as this pt is M>45 , HTN , smoker -->3+RFs ..=risk >20%
this should make him in group 1 (ie starting at 100)...??
HOW u calculate it 2 be in group 2.........??

i just get a point ...2+RFs = more than 2 RF rather than CHD equivelamt....is it..??
if such so i got it...
but here another Q
in group 2 ...2 categories one when risk =10-20
another when risk < 10%...when each be considered..??
